Job Purpose - To implement, monitor, review, and control process parameters during the shift to achieve design objectives, product yield, and quality targets. Ensures safe and reliable plant operations while enhancing operational excellence across the unit. Ensure plant operating parameters are within design and operation limits.

Quality Management System

• Coordinate shift-wise maintenance, technical, and operational activities.
• Supervise and coordinate daily operations of refinery units.
• Optimize plant parameters to meet production targets and efficiency goals.
• Monitor and optimise utilities, power consumption & minimize flare losses.
• Troubleshoot operational issues to minimize downtime and hazards.
• Identify and implement improvement schemes based on shift experiences.
• Participate in  5S initiatives.
• Ensure timely availability of chemical at Unit
• Maintain accurate logs, reports, and shift handovers.
• Set job priorities and manage field officer deployment..
• Optimize throughput and yield as per plan
• Coordinate with AAM, Planning, TS Lead, and Lab
• Ensure timely and safely equipment handover/takeover.
• Plan daily jobs with shift engineers
• Comply with operational budget.

Systems, Policies & Procedures

• Implement unit-specific systems and SOPs during shift under the guidance of AM/ AAM.
• Communicate procedures effectively to all concerned employees.
• Ensure all SOP adherence across operating units

Management

• Take emergency deviations with intimation to AAM/AM/RSM
• Monitor implementation of systems and policies during shift.
• Achieve daily operational targets.
• Participate in ABC meetings for problem-solving.
• Coordination with RSM and meet Refinery specific requirements related to product quality, emergency handling.
• To ensure that shift team members are clear about their roles and guide them.
• Report to area manager / assistant area manager about any deviations occurred/observed during the shift and actions taken.

Team Management

• Guide team members on roles and responsibilities.
• Introduce job rotation and training opportunities.
• Report deviations and corrective actions to AAM/AM
• Deputize/exchange field officers as needed.
• Deploy and manage shift manpower effectively.
• Train and mentor subordinates on technical and safety aspects.
• Conduct job debriefings and refresher training sessions.
• Promote teamwork and discipline among shift personnel.

OHSMS – Health, Safety & Welfare

• Implement HSEF procedures during shift.
• Monitor safety interlocks and ensure proper use of PPE.
• Act as Incident Controller during emergencies as per the On-site Emergency Plan.
• Ensure compliance with SOPs and PSM standards.
• Conduct safety audits and PSSR as directed.
• Take emergency action to protect personnel and contain incidents.
• Maintain housekeeping and prepare TBRA.
• Adhere to work permit system and safety policies.
• Report substandard condition/ Acts, near misses, incidents, and accidents.
• Issue/reject work permits and generate SAP job requests.

Environment Management System

• Initiate/stop effluent disposal per safety norms.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and SOPs.
• Maintain awareness of environmental consequences and legal obligations.
• Stay updated on RIMS & EnMS documentation.
• Energy Management System (ISO 50001:2018)
• Monitor energy objectives and performance
• Report deviations to higher authority
• Ensure awareness of energy-related documentation and compliance
• Optimization of steam, power & utility consumption

Process Safety Management 

• Monitor safety interlocks and communication with AM/ AAM
• Monitor IOW parameters and communication with AM/ AAM

Educational Qualifications & Certifications:

• B.E. / Diploma / B.Sc. Chemistry or equivalent

Relevant (Functional/Level) & Total Years of Experience

• Minimum 1 year as Shift In-Charge in a refinery unit.
