Senior Azure Specialist – Freelance Contractor

Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Azure Specialist to support our cloud initiatives, lead advanced architecture design, and ensure the stability, scalability, and security of our Azure environment. The ideal candidate is a senior-level expert who can work independently, provide strategic guidance, and deliver high-quality technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities Cloud Architecture & Design

  • Design, implement, and optimize Microsoft Azure cloud architectures in line with business and technical requirements.
  • Lead cloud modernization initiatives, including migration of applications, data, and infrastructure to Azure.
  • Develop and maintain architecture diagrams, solution designs, and technical documentation.

Azure Infrastructure Management

  • Configure and manage Azure resources:
  • Azure Virtual Machines, VNets, NSGs, Load Balancers
  • Azure App Services, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
  • Azure Storage, Azure Backup & Site Recovery
  • Azure Active Directory (AAD), RBAC, Identity governance
  • Optimize existing cloud environments for performance, cost-efficiency, and availability.

DevOps, Automation & CI/CD

  • Implement automation using PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM/Bicep, or Terraform.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
  • Integrate monitoring, logging, and alerting using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights.

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure Azure environments meet security best practices, regulatory requirements, and internal standards.
  • Implement Zero Trust, identity/access management, encryption, network security, and governance policies.

Troubleshooting & Support

  • Provide expertise in diagnosing complex cloud issues across infrastructure, networking, identity, and performance.
  • Offer guidance to internal teams, conduct knowledge transfers, and support project stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud technologies.
  • Proven background in cloud architecture, engineering, and administration.
  • Strong expertise in:
  • Azure IaaS, PaaS, and networking
  • Azure AD / Entra ID
  • Infrastructure as Code (ARM, Bicep, Terraform)
  • DevOps practices and CI/CD
  • PowerShell and/or Azure CLI automation
  • Experience with cloud security frameworks and best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and make senior-level technical decisions.
  • Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., AZ-305, AZ-104, AZ-400, or equivalent senior-level certs).

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with hybrid cloud or on-prem integration (Azure Arc, ExpressRoute, VPN).
  • Knowledge of container technologies (AKS, Docker).
  • Familiarity with data services (Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Data Factory).
  • Experience in enterprise-scale cloud transformation projects.
