Role & responsibilities :

Job Summary:

The Design Engineer position involves proficiency in 3D CAD modelling and manufacturing processes to assist with new product development, value engineering, and quality initiatives. The responsibilities include ensuring product quality, timely execution, and cost management throughout the product lifecycle by converting design concepts into feasible manufacturing solutions. The Design Engineer supports the team in quality outcomes, execution scheduling, and cost management (Q/D/C).

Key Responsibilities:

3D CAD Modelling & Assembly Management Develop complex part models and multi-level assemblies Conduct interference checks, motion studies within CAD environment Optimize large assemblies for performance and manage configurations, exploded views, and BOM structures Able to apply advanced modelling techniques including surfacing, sheet metal design, weldments, and top-down assembly strategies

Technical Drawing & Documentation Generate detailed engineering drawings with GD&T, material specifications, and tolerance stack-upsMaintain revision control and change documentation through PLM/PDM systemsEnsure drawings meet manufacturing, inspection, and regulatory standards

Manufacturing Integration & DFM/DFA Practices Design components with manufacturability in mindconsidering tooling, fabrication constraints, and assembly workflowsIntegrate Design for Service (DFS), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles from concept to release

Lifecycle & Data Management Manage CAD data within PLM/PDM platforms, ensuring traceability, version control, and release workflowsSupport and drive ECO processes

Cross-functional Collaboration & Execution Interact with manufacturing, sourcing, and quality teams to resolve design issuesand support production readinessIndependently manage assigned design tasks, prioritize deliverables, andcommunicate progress with minimal supervision

Continuous Improvement & Innovation Participate in design reviews, root cause analysis, and teardown sessions to identify improvement opportunitiesContribute to ideation workshops and value engineering efforts to enhance product performance and cost efficiency

Project Planning and Execution Able to support execution of deliverables per mutually agreed project plan to meet Q / D / C milestones.

Qualifications:

  • BE degree/ Mechanical Engineering / Production Engineering
  • 3+ Years of hands-on experience with 3D modelling CAD software (SolidWorks –Sheetmetal, Solid modelling, Drawings etc.)
  • Work experience from OEM manufacturing or Product companies would be added advantage

Key Competencies:

  • CAD: Proficient in modelling, detailing, and managing complex assemblies
  • PLM/PDM Tools: Working knowledge of product lifecycle and data management systems
  • Manufacturing Insights: Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, welding, injection molding, etc.
  • Communication: Clear, concise, and professional articulation of technical concepts
  • Engineering: Strong learning agility of design fundamentals and development of process workflows
