R&d Associate Full-time

**Responsibilities**:
1. Works in a safe manner in the laboratory and ensure a clean and organized workspace.

2. Creates new, innovative formulas for the personal care, skincare and/or cosmetic market.

3. Manages projects and conduct hands-on formulation of personal care and cosmetic products.

4. Transform market trends, customer feedback and design concepts into technology.

5. Benchmark and reverse engineer prototype products.

6. Independently create and refine formulas that align to the plants manufacturing capabilities.

7. Test and develop procedures for customer tech transfer projects.

8. Perform calculations and assessments to convert laboratory scale formula to large scale for manufacturing.

9. Must assist in Process Development and trouble shooting in compounding; Perform pilot batches for new products and tech transfers with the support of Commercialization.

10. Identify and troubleshoot problems with formulations.

11. Observes, records, investigates, duplicates and validates successful procedures.

12. Understand and develop testing and validation protocols to support Validation Engineering.

13. Uses GDP to write procedures, BOM, specifications, corrections, and investigations.

14. Work with Stability chemists to conduct stability and compatibility testing of products under development, establishing appropriate testing strategy to ensure specification is met.

15. Generate documents required for product registration such as Master Formula, Process Instructions, Bulk Material Specifications, Registration, Ingredient Declaration, and other documents the customer requires.

16. Perform testing, or coordinate with Quality to perform testing, of new OTC formulas.

17. Trains and mentors’ junior formulators to ensure success of the team.

18. Completes and documents required training based on job position as illustrated by LMS and training matrix.

20. Responsible for the formulation of all types of Skin Care and Sun Care products including but not limited to creams, lotions, balms, spray able lotions and surfactant-based systems

21. Responsible for the formulation of all OTC products including but not limited to acne lotions, sunscreens, and antibacterial

22. Responsible for determining product specifications and expiration dates.

23. Responsible for originating process manufacturing procedures.

24. Responsible for monitoring and releasing first time manufacturing batches.

25. Responsible for developing new products to meet marketing and sales department needs.

26. Communicate with customers on technical aspects as well as regulatory and performance.

27. Utilize and follow relevant legal requirements, regulations and product development standards.

28. Determine and perform appropriate cost reductions (raw materials).

29. Scale-up of approved formulations, to include identification of critical process variables.

30. Troubleshoot production issues and address batch variations.

31. Set product specifications and write compounding procedures.

32. Supervise and coordinate pilot batches.

33. Provide paperwork for new formulas and new raw materials to operations.

34. Provide specifications and other information to QC to receive and test new ingredients and finished goods.

35. Test stabilities and monitor testing statuses.

36. Research product formulations and properties and interactions of raw materials.

37. Vendor research for raw materials.

38. Compose and check ingredient lists, QQs and artwork

39. Interpret results of laboratory findings and assess risks involved in new products and communicate findings to sales and upper management.

40. Remain up to date and current on trends in the retail market and trends on formulations materials, ingredients, etc.

41. Training, mentoring and supervising lab staff (permanent and temporary).

Technical Skills Required

1. Knowledge of global cosmetic regulations and understanding of regulatory monographs and standards.

2. Functional knowledge of OTC testing requirements, protocols and development timelines

3. In depth understanding of personal care formulas and stability testing/protocols that ensure long term quality.

4. Understanding of Packaging Compatibility and how it relates to products.

5. In depth understand of Good Document Practices and how they relate to GLP and GMP.

6. Functional knowledge of common processing equipment.

7. Ability to interpret data to create formula specifications for Operations and Quality.

8. Understanding of Safety Data Sheets and how to evaluate raw materials and formulas for safety.

9. Efficient in MS-Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

10. Strong attention to detail.

11. Must be able to work as a team player.

12. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

13. Knowledge of cosmetic/personal care raw materials, functionality, and interactions.
