Product Designer

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Creative Design & Conceptualization**: Develop innovative and playful soft toy designs that blend creativity with practicality. Incorporate elements that enhance the sensory experience of the toy, focusing on visual appeal and tactile comfort.
- **Material Selection & Fabric Expertise**: In-depth knowledge of fabrics used in soft toys, including cotton, polyester, velvet, plush, and other têxtiles. You will select materials based on softness, durability, safety, and tactile qualities, ensuring the product is both comforting and long-lasting.
- **Softness & Texture Research**: Research and identify the softest fabrics and stuffing materials, such as hypoallergenic fibers, plush fleece, and memory foam, to ensure the toys offer a comforting and high-quality feel. Ensure the materials chosen are safe for children of all ages.
- **Sketching & Prototyping**: Create detailed sketches and 3D models of toy designs, ensuring all aspects from material texture to proportions are captured. Design prototypes to test the look, feel, and functionality of the product before mass production.
- **CAD Modelling & Technical Drawings**: Use AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD tools to create detailed 3D models and technical drawings. Translate creative concepts into precise, manufacturable designs.
- **Product Research & Trend Analysis**: Conduct research to understand market trends, consumer preferences, and new material innovations. Explore new ways of using fabrics, textures, and stuffing to create fresh, innovative designs.
- **Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams**: Work closely with marketing, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth transitions from design to production. Ensure the final product aligns with design specifications and meets quality and safety standards.
- **Quality Assurance & Safety Standards**: Ensure compliance with toy safety regulations, including material certifications and safety testing. Work with quality control teams to ensure that every toy meets the highest standards for durability, softness, and safety.
- **Product Lifecycle Management**: Manage the lifecycle of each design from initial concept, prototyping, and testing to final production and market introduction. Ensure design timelines are met and products are delivered on schedule.

**Key Skills & Qualifications**:

- **Expert Knowledge of Fabrics**: Deep understanding of various fabrics used in soft toys, including the differences in texture, durability, and softness. Experience with materials such as plush, cotton, fleece, velvet, and microfiber.
- **Material Sensitivity & Softness**: Expertise in identifying and selecting materials based on tactile qualities, softness, and safety. Ability to choose the right stuffing and fabric to create a soft, comfortable, and cuddly toy. Knowledge of various filling materials such as polyester, cotton, foam, and natural fibers (e.g., bamboo) to ensure comfort and safety.
- **Design & Artistic Vision**: Strong creative skills to conceptualize unique and visually appealing designs that are also functional and practical for manufacturing.
- **CAD Proficiency**: Advanced knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, etc.) to create detailed 3D models and technical drawings for prototypes and production.
- **Prototyping & Testing**: Experience in prototyping and testing designs to assess their comfort, safety, and manufacturability. Ability to make adjustments based on feedback and test results.
- **Attention to Detail**: High attention to detail in every aspect of design, from texture to finishing, ensuring high-quality standards are consistently met.
- **Problem Solving & Critical Thinking**: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address challenges during the design and production process.
- **Collaboration & Communication**: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate ideas clearly.
- **Understanding of Safety Standards**: Familiarity with safety regulations for children's toys and materials, ensuring compliance with ASTM, CPSIA, and EN71 standards.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- **Educational Background**: Degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Textile Design, or a related field.
- **Experience**: Prior experience in designing plush toys or similar consumer products, with a strong portfolio showcasing previous work in product design and prototyping.
- **Portfolio**: A portfolio demonstrating design projects, especially soft toy prototypes, and final products.
- **Knowledge of Sustainable Practices**: Awareness of sustainable material options and eco-friendly practices in the production of soft toys, including the use of organic fabrics and recyclable stuffing.
