**Job Title**:
Freelance Researcher - Steam Optimisation in Distribution Network

**Job Purpose**:
The Freelance Researcher will contribute to the development of a comprehensive thesis on steam optimisation within the distribution network. The researcher will conduct in-depth analysis, data collection, and modelling to propose effective strategies for optimising steam use, reducing energy costs, and improving operational efficiency. The final deliverable will include a detailed thesis write-up, including all necessary analytical work and recommendations for process improvement.

**Required Qualification**:

- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, Industrial Engineering.
- Specialisation in energy optimisation or process engineering is preferred.

**Tools to be Familiar**:

- Advanced proficiency in data analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, or R.
- Experience with statistical tools for analysis (e.g., SPSS, Minitab).
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- **Familiarity with process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) is a plus.**

**Required Experience**:

- Proven experience in energy optimisation or steam distribution systems within an industrial setting.
- Experience in process engineering, or system optimisation.
- Previous work in writing or contributing to academic reports, research papers, or thesis related to energy systems, steam, or heat management.
- Prior experience in a similar role in the manufacturing, or energy sectors is highly desirable.

**Required Knowledge/Skills**:

- Strong understanding of steam generation, distribution networks, and optimisation techniques.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency strategies and sustainability practices in industrial systems.
- Ability to analyse complex data, identify trends, and derive actionable insights for process improvement.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and high standards of work.

The Freelance Researcher will undertake the following tasks:

- Conduct a comprehensive review of existing steam distribution systems at Roche, including current inefficiencies and optimisation potential.
- Gather data related to steam consumption, distribution metrics, and operational parameters within the network.
- Perform analytical modelling and simulations to identify key areas for improvement in steam usage and distribution.
- Provide recommendations on system enhancements, focusing on energy efficiency and cost reduction.
- Prepare a well-structured thesis document, including detailed analysis, findings, and recommendations for the optimisation of the steam distribution network.
- Maintain clear documentation of the research process, methodologies used, and results achieved.
