Cognitive Ethnographer

**The Opportunity**

Inviting Researchers, Ethnographers, Psychologists, Counsellors who are excited about discovering and understanding the deeper patterns of thinking dominant in large pan-Indian communities/ institutional collectives.

Through the depth of the research insights, you can impact the quality of intervention design. You will also help the design team create effective models that directly impact several thousands of people at a time.

**Where is Cognitive Ethnography used?**

In the past, cognitive ethnography has been used with petrol pump attendants, truck drivers, bank officials, insurance advisors, innovators, college students, housewives, students, teachers, etc. Topics explored & studied include self-esteem, identity, success, aspirations, motives, etc.

**As a Cognitive Ethnographer & Researcher, **your core outcomes will be to
- understand how the community thinks.

This may include diving deep into the mind of a community - using exploratory & probing questions, using tools effectively, carrying out group discussions to generate new insights, etc.
- abstract from large amounts of qualitative & narrative data
- see both differences & commonalities across groups of people
- create high quality research products e.g. belief maps, models of responses, secondary research dockets, research reports
- design & develop new kinds of tools, tests, & instruments for surfacing deep-rooted patterns of thinking & behaving

**Key success factors**
- strong foundations in qualitative or quantitative research methodology & research integrity
- openness to new and alternative perspectives, methods and willing to iterate until user/ project outcomes are met
- ability to perceive underlying patterns in thinking & where people are coming from
- have strong verbal and written proficiency in English. Fluency in Hindi and any other regional language is a plus
- can work well independently & with a team; are self-managed; have a strong eye for detail, & rigor in thinking
- having a Master's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Humanities, Social sciences, Counseling, Ethnography, Human development, Teaching/ Facilitation, or 3+ years of experience in quantitative & qualitative research. Background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an added advantage
