Role Description: Database Administration: Manage, monitor, and maintain databases (e.g., My SQL, Postgre SQL, Oracle, SQL Server) to ensure optimal performance, availability, and security. Performance Tuning: Analyze and optimize database performance, including query tuning, indexing strategies, and schema design adjustments. Backup & Recovery: Implement and maintain data backup, recovery, and restoration procedures to protect against data loss and ensure continuity. Data Integrity & Security: Enforce data security policies and implement encryption, access controls, and auditing mechanisms to protect sensitive data. Capacity Planning: Anticipate future database needs and conduct capacity planning to support growing data volumes. Automation & Scripting: Develop scripts and automated processes to streamline database operations, maintenance, and reporting. Collaboration: Work closely with development, analytics, and infrastructure teams to understand data requirements, improve database design, and troubleshoot performance issues. Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and best practices. Qualifications: Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Experience: 3+ years of experience in database administration, management, or a related role. Technical Skills: Proficiency in database platforms (e.g., My SQL, Postgre SQL, Oracle, SQL Server). Strong understanding of SQL and database management tools. Experience with backup, recovery, and high-availability solutions. Familiarity with database security, including encryption and user access management. Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation. Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, Azure SQL Database). Knowledge of data warehousing, ETL processes, and business intelligence tools. Certification in database management or administration (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator).
