Job Responsibilities:

• Work with rest of the upstream process development team to design and execute experiments

to develop robust and scalable process for high cell density aerobic fermentation.

• Prepare technical reports, SOP/batch records, internal and external presentations to support

tech transfer of upstream process.

• Ensure effective, high-quality, timely and appropriate documentation in physical or electronic

laboratory notebooks. Maintain diligent and organized records.

• Effectively maintain good communication and collaborate with cross-functional colleagues

and external partners for successful execution/completion of projects.

• Prepare media, reagents, buffers, and equipment as needed to support fermentation

experiments.

• Independently execute microbial cell culture experiments, interpret data, and work with team

members to integrate results into process designs and overall project plans.

• To support and execute upstream process development activities to optimize processes to

produce proteins, plasmid DNA, and other biologics. Identify, evaluate, and implement new

and existing technologies to improve upstream process efficiency, control, and understanding

growth in shake flasks and single use fermenters, harvest, lysis, and clarification.

• Generate research cell banks for use in fermentations.

• Execute internal tech transfer and scale-up of fermentations from 5L, 30L and, and 300L

reactors.

• Mentor and lead a small team of research associates.

• Collaborate and coordinate with downstream process engineering, project engineering,

QA/QC as and when necessary.

• Provide guidance and support during outgoing fermentation tech transfer and scale-up.

• Participate in the tech transfer and scale-up of developed processes to pilot and/or GMP

manufacturing.

• Clearly communicate results and recommendations to colleagues and managers

Expected qualification:

• Minimum M.SC . in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.

• Minimum 7-9 years hands on experience with microbial upstream process development

and in biotechnology/pharmaceutical manufacturing practices (Preferably Biopharma) and

guidelines,

• Experience in microbial culture and fermentation-based manufacturing of plasmid DNA

and proteins.

• Scale up of single-use upstream technology.

• Technical proficiency required for aseptic microbial fermentation.

• Working knowledge of downstream purification techniques.

• Relevant industry experience in GMP environment is a plus.

• Experience training and mentoring juniors in an organization.

• Must be self-motivating, organized, and proactive.

• Strong technical aptitude including demonstrated experience in applying scientific

reasoning to solve complex problems.

• Strong knowledge of computer systems including base of computer systems including base

of MS word, MS excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS projects in addition to familiarity with

statistical software and planning with inventory systems.

• Ability to work hours necessary to support production and/ or product transfer activities.
