Job Summary
The Electrochemist will conduct advanced research and development in Li-ion battery materials, focusing on electrochemical processes to enable next-generation, high-performance cells. This role is central to optimizing cell performance, safety, and lifecycle, and involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop cutting-edge electrochemical solutions for Li-ion technology.
Responsibilities
- Electrochemical Research: Lead R&D in electrochemical processes and material interactions to improve battery cell energy density, cycle life, and efficiency.
- Material Optimization: Develop and refine electrode, electrolyte, and separator materials to enhance ionic conductivity, stability, and compatibility with next-gen battery chemistries.
- Electrochemical Testing & Characterization: Conduct in-depth electrochemical testing, including cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, and charge/discharge cycling to evaluate material and cell performance.
- Data Analysis & Process Improvement: Analyse electrochemical data to identify performance trends and areas for optimization, applying insights to enhance cell design and material formulations.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with R&D, cell design, and materials science teams to integrate electrochemical findings into cell prototypes and scale-up processes.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain meticulous records of experimental methods, test results, and findings, preparing detailed reports for R&D leadership and project stakeholders.
- Industry & Research Engagement: Stay updated on advances in electrochemical technologies and battery industry trends to continuously bring innovative ideas to development projects.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Electrochemistry Expertise: Strong background in electrochemical processes, cell reactions, and energy storage principles, with specific experience in Li-ion battery applications.
- Analytical & Testing Proficiency: Skilled in electrochemical testing methods (e.g., EIS, CV, cycling) and proficient in data interpretation for material and cell analysis.
- Materials Science Knowledge: Understanding of Li-ion battery materials, including electrode and electrolyte chemistries and their effects on cell performance and stability.
- Problem-Solving & Innovation: Ability to develop innovative solutions for electrochemical challenges, optimising processes for improved battery performance.
- Collaboration & Communication: Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional R&D teams.
- Attention to Detail & Documentation: Strong attention to detail in data collection, analysis, and reporting, with a commitment to scientific rigor.
Role Specific Qualifications/Certifications
This role is ideal for an electrochemist passionate about advancing Li-ion battery technologies, with a proven ability to leverage electrochemical knowledge to drive state-of-the-art and next-gen cell innovation. This role is well-suited for an electrochemist with a degree or PhD in electrochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering or materials science.
