Job Overview :

We are looking for a talented and passionate engineer to join us, with a focus on designing and building actuators for a humanoid robot. In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of key systems that power the movements and functionality of our humanoid robots. Key Responsibilities :

  • Design and develop actuators : Lead the design, prototyping, and integration of actuators for humanoid robotic systems, ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams : Work closely with the rest of the team to ensure actuator design aligns with robot behaviour and movement.
  • Optimization and testing : Conduct rigorous testing of actuators to ensure they meet functional and durability requirements. Continuously improve actuator performance based on test results.
  • Actuator system integration : Develop solutions to integrate actuators seamlessly with other components, including sensors, control systems, and power electronics.
  • Research and innovation : Stay at the forefront of actuator technology and robotics trends, incorporating new materials, mechanisms, and control techniques to enhance robotic capabilities.
  • Documentation and reporting : Maintain detailed documentation for actuator designs, test procedures, and results. Present progress and findings to the leadership team and other stakeholders.
  • Iterative development : Iterate and refine actuator designs based on performance feedback and evolving system requirements.

Required Skills and Experience :

  • Bachelor's, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing and developing actuators, motors, or related mechanical systems, ideally for robotics applications.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including kinematics, dynamics, and material selection.
  • Experience with actuator control systems (e.g., motor controllers, servos, pneumatic, hydraulic systems).
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360) for actuator design and modeling.
  • Experience with embedded systems, sensors, and feedback loops for actuator control.
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping and testing techniques for mechanical components.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience in humanoid robotics, exoskeletons, or wearable robotics.
  • Familiarity with advanced actuator technologies such as soft robotics, artificial muscles, or piezoelectric actuators.
  • Experience with control algorithms (e.g., PID, adaptive control, machine learning).
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing techniques, such as 3D printing, CNC machining, or composites.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools like Gazebo, Issac Sim or similar.

Note: This is a co-founder level position and majority of the compensation will be in ESOPs.
