SQL DBA Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Database Engineer to design, engineer, and deliver best-in-class cloud database services. This role involves building scalable, secure, and resilient database platforms, supporting development teams in their cloud journey, and continuously improving reliability and performance through automation and modern engineering practices.Key Responsibilities- Engineer a best-in-class cloud database service offering.- Design and integrate cloud database solutions aligned with industry best practices, ensuring scalability, resilience, security, observability, and simplicity.- Conduct proof of concepts (POCs) for new cloud database services and third-party tools.- Collaborate with InfoSec to review and enhance Azure security posture.- Develop innovative solutions to address complex challenges in distributed systems, scale, and security.- Work with cross-functional cloud teams to prioritize service enhancements.- Partner with development teams to guide cloud adoption and evaluate new cloud service requirements.- Optimize database performance through effective indexing strategies and query tuning techniques.- Identify, triage, and drive automation to improve reliability, operability, and developer experience.- Solve new and challenging problems as part of a highly skilled engineering team.- Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills to address issues proactively before impacting business productivity.- Build fully automated solutions using Infrastructure-as-Code and integrate them with CI/CD pipelines.Required Knowledge, Experience & QualificationsCore Experience- Strong background in infrastructure and cloud database engineering.- Hands-on Cloud DBA experience – Azure SQL (must-have).- Experience as a Senior SQL DBA.- Deep technical knowledge of:- MS SQL Server 2005–2019+- Query/workload performance tuning and troubleshooting- Partitioning, In-Memory OLTP, Resource Governor, Query Store- SSRS and SSIS- High Availability: SQL AlwaysOn Availability Groups & Failover Clusters- Experience improving performance through debugging and query optimization.- Expertise in creating & managing scheduled database maintenance routines.- Strong understanding of Active Directory as it relates to SQL databases (least-privilege access).- Advanced scripting using PowerShell, T-SQL, Python, and automation for database tasks.- Experience managing large databases (10TB+).- Strong knowledge of security hardening based on vulnerability-driven approaches.- Ability to interpret and leverage database metrics & statistics for capacity and performance planning.- Experience collaborating with development teams on cloud migrations or large-scale infrastructure programs.- Experience building and delivering services using APIs.- Familiarity with modern DevOps tools:- GIT, Azure DevOps, Terraform, ARM Templates, Jenkins, Ansible, Puppet, Docker, Kubernetes.- Strong infrastructure knowledge: virtualization, networks, Windows/Linux, storage.- Understanding of PaaS, Infrastructure-as-Code, Compliance-as-Code.- Experience in modern engineering and Agile/DevOps ("shift left") practices.- Strong scripting skills in at least one programming language (PowerShell, TSQL, Python, .NET, Node.js, Ruby, Java).- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, analysts, engineers, and data scientists.- Deep understanding of cloud ecosystems, technologies, and emerging trends.- Excellent communication skills and ability to self-manage.- Vendor management experience.Preferred Skills & Qualifications- Working knowledge of additional database engines:- Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB- Azure database services: Cosmos DB, MySQL Flexible Server, PostgreSQL Flexible Server- AWS database services: Aurora, DynamoDB- Experience designing and implementing cloud database solutions on Azure/AWS RDS- Hands-on Kubernetes engineering & support.- Experience in cloud transformation initiatives across large tech organizations.- Cloud database certifications (Azure SQL mandatory; AWS RDS beneficial).- Knowledge of cloud service capabilities across AWS, Azure, GCP, Alibaba Cloud.- Understanding of cloud-native backup solutions.- Experience with Power BI and Azure Power Platform.- Experience working in the financial sector (advantage).What You’ll Be Like- A passionate engineer/technologist with curiosity and drive.- Eager to learn and adopt new technologies.- A strong advocate for cloud adoption and cloud transformation.- Collaborative, proactive, and solution-oriented.
