Essential Functions:

  1. Verify the consumables in the crash cart and the status of all equipment in the ICU and inform the Nursing Supervisor of any discrepancies.

This task is best performed at nights.

  1. Check the message book for instructions during shift changes.
  2. Document and be aware of new admissions, transfers, investigations, surgeries, and discharges in the ICU.
  3. Greet patients and assess their condition, documenting it at regular intervals.
  4. Ensure patient diets align with the diet chart.
  5. Accompany consultants during ICU visits and follow their instructions.
  6. Assist consultants and resident doctors with bedside procedures.
  7. Replace patient medicines if not endorsed to the next in-charge nurse.
  8. Inform the Nursing Superintendent or Supervisor of special events during the shift.
  9. Maintain patient hygiene and unit tidiness.

  1. Prepare patients for surgeries and procedures, ensuring consent is obtained.
  2. Monitor patients closely for any condition deterioration, requiring immediate intervention.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Check and prepare ICU trolleys and send equipment for sterilization as needed.
  2. Organize patient case sheets in an orderly manner.
  3. Update the daily census.
  4. Check medicine expiry dates and replace nearing-expiry medications.
  5. Verify ICU inventory and equipment, reporting defects to the Nursing Supervisor.
