About this team:

The Performance Engineering team is responsible for guaranteeing that all projects in the Retail Engineering team meet and exceed load and performance expectations. Working in this team will provide the candidate with exposure to various teams and technologies, allowing them to grow professionally.

A day in the life:

The QA Performance Engineer will be part of a highly skilled team of engineers who ensure all solutions developed in the Retail Engineering teams meet our load and performance expectations. They will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to collect non-functional requirements and develop performance designs, test strategies, and plans.

Their duties include:

  • Collaborating with global teams to ensure alignment on priorities
  • Working with cross-functional teams to collect non-functional requirements and develop performance designs, test strategies, and plans
  • Developing Performance Testing strategy for implementation with a focus on automated testing
  • Collaborating with teams to develop and review data-driven performance test scripts to help validate application performance and associated integrations
  • Identifying performance bottlenecks across all tiers, components, and layers
  • Conducting performance and capacity optimization analysis and studies to improve application effectiveness
  • Engaging Architects and Technology teams in establishing performance goals, monitoring, and benchmarking
  • Proactively analyzing and communicating performance issues from production, UAT, and Performance Testing
  • Setting up and reviewing SLAs for Production applications and mirroring them in Non-Production environments
  • Managing performance governance to SLAs and ensuring all systems operate within defined SLAs
  • Analyzing and providing performance recommendations on breached SLAs to App teams
  • Developing strategies to proactively alert on breached SLAs
  • Resolving critical and complex application issues (crashes, hung threads, memory leaks, etc.) and performance tuning based on Root Cause Analysis
  • Developing performance and test scripts to simulate real-world scenarios
  • Understanding application architecture and technology stacks to recommend appropriate strategies and ensure system performance aligns with defined SLAs
  • Conducting Proof of Concept for engineering and testing tools, demonstrating feasibility, and providing business justifications
  • Monitoring infrastructure and system installations, including configuration, testing, and maintenance for uninterrupted operations
  • Building tools to automate IT Operations, including CI/CD, Monitoring/Alerting, Incident response

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in IT Engineering or Computer Science with 8+ years' experience working on products

3+ years' experience in a team leadership role and rich experience on SaaS-based products

Expertise in performance testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling, K6, etc.

Hands-on experience with Load and Soak Testing

Experience in creating test plans, estimating resources, analyzing test results, and generating performance reports

Strong technical background in performance tuning and optimization of enterprise applications, distributed systems, middleware, and sql and no-sql databases

Understanding of micro-services, horizontally scaling architecture, container-based applications, and software Development cycle with automated build-test pipelines

Developing automation frameworks with a focus on modularity, performance, scalability, and future expansion

Understanding J2EE frameworks, JavaScript, Spring Boot/Spring Cloud, REST, Java performance monitors (JVM, GC, Heap Size, Message Broker), and Application Architecture

Good understanding of programming, data structures, code optimization, and building frameworks from scratch with expertise in Java/C#/JavaScript/Typescript/Python

Experience with APM tools like Datadog, Charles Proxy, Fiddler, Prometheus, Grafana, Kibana, Splunk, Windows, UNIX platforms, AWS Cloud, and Kubernetes

Understanding of hardware and software considerations and tuning for low-latency workloads

Experience with integrating performance testing/monitoring into CI/CD Pipelines with GitLab

Experience with Chaos testing/engineering tools, application monitoring/observability, and logging/tracing

Must have knowledge of database concepts and experience in writing SQL queries

Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail

Exposure to defect management and documentation tools like JIRA, Confluence

Expected salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
