Job Summary

Control Systems Software Developer

Armstrong Dematic is seeking an experienced Control Systems Software Developer to join our team. As a key member of our controls software development organization, you will be responsible for developing standard controls software for PLC or other real-time controller platforms. Your passion for excellence, drive to complete tasks within tight deadlines, and technical skill to produce high-quality software will be invaluable to our team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and/or follow a project plan, ensuring timely completion of milestones.
  2. Co-develop successive releases of controls software products in coordination with product champions, focusing on complex design, maintenance, enhancement, testing, implementation, and support.
  3. Ensure software is well-structured, easy to understand, and well-documented.
  4. Develop software tools for rapid deployment of controls software products in testing and application environments.
  5. Baseline existing systems, make necessary improvements to stabilize/upgrade them, and complete quality process through execution of module, subsystem, and system test procedures.
  6. Produce all documentation required as part of the development process, including detailed design specifications, test documents, and descriptions of operation.
  7. Complete estimates for modules under development, especially own work, and perform reviews of complex standards specifications and other documentation to determine engineering requirements.
  8. Perform presentations of complex technical findings and developments.
  9. Contribute to the development and maintenance of controls software standards.
  10. Train regional product champions to efficiently deploy developed software products.
  11. 5% to 15% travel may be required.

Work, Health, Safety & Environment (WHS&E) Responsibilities

Take care of your own health and safety, as well as that of others, by implementing risk control measures to prevent injuries or illnesses. Prevent pollution to the environment, cooperate with policies, procedures, and instructions, and report hazards, incidents, and injuries via the reporting process.

Other Responsibilities

Comply with relevant statutory and legal requirements as required, commit to and cooperate with quality management systems and processes, and ensure alignment with Armstrong Dematic values.

Key Relationships

Collaborate with other Software Development Groups, Development Project Management and Quality Assurance, Application Engineering, Mechatronics R&D, Product Management, and Customer Service teams.

Knowledge/Experience & Competence Requirements

Minimum 3+ years of PLC programming experience, including hands-on experience with material handling/intralogistics systems (conveyor, stacker cranes, or pallet conveying systems) and a minimum of 1 year of experience in Siemens TIA coding. A working understanding of design, layout, and use of industrial networks is required, with preferred experience in Profinet, Profibus, and ASi. Experience designing and developing software using higher-level languages, such as C, C++, Visual Basic, or Java, is essential, with experience in real-time applications and automated testing including scripting being beneficial. Experience in an agile development environment and HMI/SCADA programming is also beneficial. A degree in electrical or mechatronics engineering, computer science, or a similar discipline is required, with honors level preferred.
