Sustainability Architect for Distributed Systems

The Service Platform organization within Stripe focuses on enabling engineers to write and ship efficient services that leverage infrastructure capabilities. We build effective frameworks and abstractions to abstract away complex infrastructure complexities and promote best practices.
Sustainability Team OverviewWe are forming a new Service Ecosystem Sustainability team within this organization. This cross-functional team will collaborate closely across infrastructure and product teams to ensure the health, consistency, and modernity of our service infrastructure ecosystem.
This role is critical in reducing fragmentation and improving safe and consistent usage of our infrastructure. You will work towards promoting the use of newer, better, and safer abstractions, ensuring our services remain scalable and efficient.
Your RoleAs a member of the Service Ecosystem Sustainability team, you will be responsible for guiding our sustainability roadmap and investing in impactful initiatives. You will build strong partnerships, work on complex projects, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance our service infrastructure. Your expertise in distributed systems and service-oriented architecture will be instrumental in driving positive change within our organization.
Requirements- 6+ years of professional software development experience in distributed systems and service-oriented architecture, including technical leadership of projects.
- Experience in architecting and designing large-scale systems that delivered meaningful impact to a business.
- Skilled in working across infrastructure and product teams - building alignment, driving decision making, and communicating transparently.
- Passionate about improving productivity and developer experience of internal product teams.
- Eager to learn and effective at giving and receiving constructive feedback to/from peer engineers.
- Experience building and operating microservices in Java and/or Ruby.
- Experience communicating and collaborating effectively across globally distributed teams.
- Experience with effectively planning and executing large-scale migrations.
- Experience mentoring and helping in the development of engineers and peers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for different audiences (leadership, users, stakeholders etc.).
At Stripe, we offer competitive compensation packages, including salaries ranging from $150,000 to $250,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
