Job Title: Java Performance Engineer

The role of a Java Performance Engineer involves resolving complex technical issues and improving the overall performance of systems.

This includes being the last point of escalation within the technical support department, where one can quickly gain an understanding of the platform and its various components.

This is a customer-facing role requiring strong interpersonal skills in addition to strong technical skills, enabling one to bridge the gap between customers and internal teams (Development, Infrastructure, Networking, Hardware).

To remediate outages or enhance performance, utilize tools like BigData, Splunk, and Grafana to map out metrics and identify trends on transactional throughput, memory, CPU, job processing, and disk utilization.

Utilize database optimization skills to directly tune the database, add indexes, maintain tables and data, and understand execution plans to recommend better-formed queries.

Review application code to point out and fix performance concerns.

  • Manage and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Utilize tools like BigData, Splunk, and Grafana.
  • Tune databases and optimize query performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills and problem-solving abilities, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle), Java experience, ability to read object-oriented design principles and memory management, scripting language experience (JavaScript preferred), and advanced Unix/Linux experience.
