Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Sheet Metal Design Engineer to join our dynamic team at Kewaunee International Group. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing and developing sheet metal components and assemblies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) to design sheet metal components and assemblies that meet customer requirements.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Collaborate with prototyping teams to create samples, evaluate designs, and conduct tests to ensure product reliability and functionality.
  • Material Selection: Select appropriate sheet metal materials based on design specifications, cost considerations, and product requirements.
  • Manufacturing Feasibility: Work closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure that the designs are manufacturable, considering production methods such as stamping, laser cutting, bending, and welding.
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Optimize designs to reduce manufacturing costs and time while maintaining the structural integrity and quality of the product.
  • 3D Modeling & Drafting: Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings that communicate assembly and part dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.
  • Tooling and Fixture Design: Design or assist in the design of custom tools, fixtures, and jigs to aid in the efficient manufacture of sheet metal components.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring designs are completed on time, within budget, and in alignment with customer requirements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, quality assurance, production, and suppliers, to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet specifications.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Address design issues, resolve production challenges, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Cost Estimation: Provide cost estimates for sheet metal products and ensure that designs remain within budget constraints.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in sheet metal design or a related field.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes: Familiarity with sheet metal manufacturing processes such as stamping, forming, laser cutting, and welding.
  • Understanding of Materials: Knowledge of different sheet metal materials and their properties, such as steel, aluminum, copper, and their uses in design.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex design problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy, quality, and consistency in design work.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification: Professional certifications such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or similar.
  • Advanced Knowledge: Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for sheet metal design and simulation.
  • Experience with ERP Systems: Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for managing design and production processes.

Estimated Salary: $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.
