At EXL, we are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our team. With a strong background in technical engineering and experience working with modern data platforms, this individual will play a critical role in building and maintaining our clients' data assets.

Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional candidate who can leverage their expertise in data modeling, SQL, Jinja templating, and DBT to build robust, performant, and reliable data transformation and feature extraction pipelines. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of dimensional modeling and data warehousing concepts, as well as experience working with cloud data platforms such as AWS (Lambda, Step Functions, S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift).

Responsibilities include:

  • Leveraging technical skills to design, develop, and maintain data architecture, data models, and standards for various data integration and data warehouse projects
  • Collaborating with business and technical teams to collect business requirements and deliver best-in-class dimensional data models
  • Designing and developing dbt/SQL codebase and companion ERD documents used to bring the analytics warehouse to life
  • Analyzing data quality, aligning technical design to data governance, and addressing non-business operational requirements during pipeline design and build
  • Applying software engineering best practices like version control and continuous integration to the analytics code base

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative or technical field and 3+ years of experience in data and analytics, modern data platforms, and related technologies. A strong background in SQL, DBT, and cloud data platforms is essential. Additionally, proficiency in Python and/or Jinja templating in Python and/or PySpark is a plus.

Required Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should have:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative or technical field
  • 3+ years of experience in data and analytics and modern data platforms
  • Advanced SQL knowledge, including various join types, CTEs, partitioning, pivoting, and aggregates
  • Extensive experience with DBT or similar data transformation tools
  • Deep familiarity with dimensional modeling/data warehousing concepts
  • Understanding of change data capture concepts
  • Experience working with cloud data platforms, preferably AWS
  • Python proficiency or general knowledge of Jinja templating in Python and/or PySpark
  • Agile experience and willingness to work with extended offshore teams and assist with design and code reviews with customers

In terms of salary, we estimate that this position will offer a competitive compensation package, with a salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
