About the Role



We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineer – Mechanical Engineering to join our team at Wabtec Corporation. As a key member of our Platform and Structural Engineering team, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in the design and development of platform and underframe components and subsystems for our locomotives.



Key Responsibilities




  • Lead the design and development of platform subsystems for locomotives following our robust engineering design and development process.
  • Ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and Wabtec specifications.
  • Proactively work with leadership to shape the technology roadmap for the team, leading to effectiveness and efficiency improvements.
  • Act as a mentor for less experienced members in our global team setup.
  • Lead multiple complex projects, adhering to Wabtec processes while meeting business standards and program/product requirements.
  • Influence the technical direction for platform subsystems to maximize business impact.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated and utilize it for training and effort optimization.
  • Represent the team/business in technical matters to customers, regulatory agencies, consultants, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to understand system requirements flow down to subsystems, develop concepts, and evaluate, identify risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Take the design through technical reviews, document technical data consistent with engineering policies and quality procedures.
  • Provide shop support for in-house manufacturing and address supplier/field issues.
  • Interfacing with cross-functional stakeholders across the organization.
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.
  • Participate in organizational initiatives and team activities.


Qualifications/Requirements




  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering from a reputable institute with 15+ years of experience demonstrating increased responsibility in driving technical solutions and business outcomes.
  • Experience in design, FEA, and development of mechanical components, subsystems for locomotive, rolling stock, or heavy/infrastructure engineering industry will be an added advantage.


Desired Characteristics




  • Good understanding of design of platform/car body structures.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work at global locations.
  • Familiarity with NPI/APQP process.
  • Deep technical understanding and competency in locomotive/heavy vehicle chassis/structural component design and related tools like FEA, Dynamics, etc.
  • Proven record of engineering design, manufacturing, and reliability in areas welded structures/FEA, etc.
  • Must have experience with heavy/light fabricated & cast structures, suspension components design & evaluation.
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills to interface effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, strong technical leadership skills, ability to work independently, and strong problem-solving skills.
