Job Description

At IBM, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Logic Design Engineer to lead the architecture, design, and development of the Processor Core Vector-Scalar Execution unit for high-performance IBM Systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in processor core design, with experience in architecting and designing execution units, as well as a deep understanding of out-of-order, super-scalar, and multi-threaded core architectures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architecture, design, and development of the Processor Core Vector-Scalar Execution unit
  • Architect and design fixed-point, floating-point, vector, and SIMD instructions for a high-performance processor CPU
  • Develop features and present proposed architectures in high-level design discussions
  • Estimate overall effort to develop features and estimate silicon area and wire usage
  • Develop micro-architecture, design RTL, and collaborate with other core units, verification, DFT, physical design, timing, FW, and SW teams to develop features
  • Sign off on pre-silicon design that meets all functional, area, and timing goals
  • Participate in post-silicon lab bring-up and validation of hardware
  • Lead a team of engineers, guide, and mentor team members, and represent as Logic Design Lead in global forums

Requirements:

  • 8 or more years of demonstrated experience in architecting and designing execution units of CPU
  • Hands-on experience in implementing arithmetic, crypto, and SIMD functions
  • Deep expertise in out-of-order, super-scalar, and multi-threaded core architectures and ISA
  • Experience with high-frequency, instruction pipeline designs
  • At least 1 generation of processor core silicon bring-up experience
  • In-depth understanding of industry microprocessor designs (e.g., x86, ARM, or RISC-V processor designs)
  • Proficiency in RTL design with Verilog or VHDL
