Senior Counsel Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Counsel to join our team at Wayfair. As a Senior Counsel, you will play a critical role in providing legal advice and guidance to our business units and functions, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive legal support to all business units and functions, including data privacy, consumer protection, and intellectual property.
  • Develop and deploy a calibrated risk-based approach to complex and often uncertain legal issues.
  • Play a leadership role in our organisation, driving change, mentoring and coaching others, and fostering inclusivity.
  • Manage outside counsel and ensure that external advisors are held to a high bar.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on day-to-day and out-of-the-ordinary legal matters.
  • Liaise with external counsel on litigation and strategize with counsel to obtain the best possible outcome for Wayfair.
  • Lead employment law matters.

Requirements:

  • LLB or higher degree from an accredited university in India.
  • Minimum 5 years post-qualification in India, with in-house experience at a multinational company preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills, with the ability to navigate a large organisation and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Willingness to master new and unfamiliar areas of practice, with legal knowledge related to employment law, commercial contracts, corporate, litigation, and e-commerce a plus.
  • Project management experience and the ability to prioritise, multi-task, meet deadlines, and maintain flexibility in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive, self-starter with a strong work ethic, a demonstrated ability to handle a demanding workload, and a willingness to roll-up sleeves.
