Job Title: Mainframe Automation Expert

Overview of the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Automation Expert to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of mainframe systems and automation tools, with the ability to design, implement, and maintain complex automation scripts and jobs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Automation Development: Develop best practices and reusable automation frameworks for mainframe operations, ensuring efficient and effective automation of business processes.
  • Tool Expertise: Utilize automation tools such as CA OPS/MVS, REXX, IBM System Automation, Control-M, JCL, and CLIST to automate mainframe tasks and workflows.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot automation-related issues and provide root cause analysis to ensure minimal downtime and optimal system performance.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with infrastructure, operations, and application teams to integrate automation solutions and optimize overall system performance.
  • Documentation: Document automation processes, configurations, and standards to ensure seamless knowledge transfer and efficient onboarding of new team members.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Programming Skills: Strong programming/scripting skills in REXX, JCL, and CLIST, with experience in developing and maintaining complex automation scripts.
  • Automation Tools: Experience with automation tools such as CA OPS/MVS, IBM System Automation, or equivalent, with the ability to design, implement, and maintain automation jobs and scripts.
  • System Knowledge: Good understanding of mainframe systems: z/OS, DB2, CICS, IMS, MQ, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues.
  • Scheduling Tools: Familiarity with scheduling tools like Control-M, CA7, or Tivoli, with the ability to optimize and streamline workflow automation.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Nice to Have:

  • DevOps Experience: Experience with DevOps and modern automation practices, with a strong understanding of cloud and hybrid mainframe environments.
  • ITIL Knowledge: Familiarity with ITIL processes and procedures, with the ability to apply them in a mainframe automation context.
