Database Engineer II

Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Application partners to define, frame, and capture business needs.
- Design and implement database migration from private to public cloud, new application onboarding to public cloud, solutions, and adoption of latest cloud-native patterns.
- Participate in the database design and selection process, data modeling.
- Deploy scalable and highly available databases in the cloud.
- Determine Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies for database connectivity and access control.
- Provide internal analysis and support to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded database performance.
- Conduct periodic Database performance and security assessments.
- Define best practices, standards, operational readiness, documentation, and create logical and physical data models.
- Prioritize, complete, and oversee projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.
- Responsible for the quality of deliverables in terms of the technical design, implementation, testing, and adherence to technical compliance standards.
- Develop tools that automate database processes, such as database provisioning or migration enabling database engineers and developers to do more self-service.
- Find opportunities to adopt innovative technologies.
Scope of Impact/Influence:
- Responsible for the Database platform and supporting technology.
- Leads the design, build, enhancement, and integration of database.
- Plays an integral role in building and enhancing database in terms of robustness, scalability, availability, and efficiency.
- Leadership accountability for team completing assigned tasks and delivery of quality work.
Education & Technology core competencies:
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field required, advanced degree preferred.
- 3+ years of database development experience in a public cloud environment and/or comparable experience.
- Hands-on experience handling operational tasks of NoSQL (DynamoDB, Bigtable, Cassandra, MongoDB) and RDBMS Databases (Cloud SQL, Aurora, Postgres) supporting and maintaining the production-grade environments, database upgrade/downgrade, capacity expansion, backup and recovery, performance tuning.
- Proficient in the public cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, Azure.
- As a part of core team member of cloud migrations, should contribute in application selection for the next waves of migration.
- Collaborate with the technology vendors, cloud partners to help build/implement versatile innovative solutions to secure workloads in public cloud environments.
- Good to have experience in Automation using Ansible for Database use cases like Migration, Upgrade, Patching, etc.
- Practical experience with Data Architecture, translate business data requirements into data models (Conceptual, logical, physical) and using data modeling tools.
- Extensive experience in Linux based DB performance monitoring by using system tools, security setup, troubleshooting, and performance tuning as necessary to ensure optimum performance, patching of Linux based DB servers on regular schedule.
- Preferred hands-on experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to learn through experience.
- Experience in change management, Incident management, RFC, Problem management & RCA.
