Mainframe IMS Database Administrator and System Programmer Job Description:

The IMS Database Administrator and System Programmer will be responsible for administering and maintaining IMS databases and systems. The ideal candidate will have at least 6+ years of experience in database administration and system programming. Key responsibilities include conducting performance monitoring and tuning activities, backup and recovery, troubleshooting applications on IMS databases, and implementing and maintaining database backup and recovery strategies. A strong understanding of IMS utilities and DBRC is required, as well as experience in database initialization, forward recovery, and building secondary indexes. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills and be able to provide production support 24/7. Additionally, the candidate should have experience in creating DBDs, PSBs, and ACBs, as well as familiarity with problem determination, security, and performance tuning.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain IMS databases and systems
  • Conduct performance monitoring and tuning activities
  • Implement and maintain database backup and recovery strategies
  • Provide production support 24/7
  • Troubleshoot applications on IMS databases

Requirements:

  • At least 6+ years of experience in database administration and system programming
  • Strong understanding of IMS utilities and DBRC
  • Experience in database initialization, forward recovery, and building secondary indexes
  • Excellent communication skills

IBM IMS Tools and Mainframe Experience:

  • BMC & CA IMS Tools
  • File-Aid/IMS
  • Omegamon XE/IMS

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with problem determination, security, and performance tuning
  • Experience with software maintenance
  • Knowledge about the overall IBM specialty engines and their performance
