Job Summary
The Associate Team Lead (Laytime) will be responsible for accurately calculating laytime within stipulated time frames and settling the same, following fixture terms for demurrage, detention, and dispatch for all marine shipments executed. This role requires maintaining compliance with Bunge values, policies, and procedures while working closely with various trading desks, trade execution, and maritime freight departments as well as external counterparties.
Main Responsibilities
The key accountabilities of this role include:
- Laytime calculation, control, and settlement
- Analyzing charterparties and voyage documents, clarifying events with trade execution and freight departments
- Issuing invoices to customers with supporting documentation, monitoring collections, and performing cash application
- Producing and retaining documentation according to internal and external policies and procedures
- Reviewing counterparty claims and disputes, liaising with internal and external counterparts on calculation correctness
Additional Responsibilities
This role also involves identifying global transition programs under GTE and successfully leading them. Additionally, it includes identifying ideas for process improvement using industry-leading practices, handling exceptions generated, and performing root cause analysis to resolve current issues and proactively avert potential issues in the future. Furthermore, the successful candidate will follow the transformation in the commodity supply chain and help deploy platforms like COVANTIS, SEDNA, and GLOBAL SHARE.
Impact and Dimensions
As a critical member of the team, this individual will be responsible for timely calculation and revenue recognition for over 500 vessels with a dollar value of around $20 million in a Bunge fiscal year. They must ensure zero revenue leakage due to time-barred cases, maintain document control, and meet timeline completion targets for laytime calculations.
Key Performance Indicators
- Control of time-bar cases applicable in charter parties and/or contracts, ensuring zero revenue leakage due to time-barred cases
- Document control, managing the inflow of required documents from agents or vessel operators and obtaining them within 5 workdays
- Timeline of completion of laytime calculation
- Error count in related processes
Major Opportunities and Decisions
To be successful in this role, the Associate Team Lead must demonstrate high organization, flexibility, strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and analytical capabilities. They must also be able to work effectively as part of a team to achieve common objectives and make effective decisions.
Management/Leadership
This is an individual contributor role but should own at least 2 value chains for end-to-end laytime operations control and look for career progression as a laytime lead.
Key Relationships, Stakeholders & Interfaces
This role interacts with trading, freight, origin execution, controlling, accounting, finance desks across regions served by Bunge.
Knowledge and Technical Competencies
- Good knowledge of concepts and procedures related to shipment of trade commodities and related terms & guidelines, including expertise in letters of credit and shipping documents
- Ability to provide high-quality customer service to internal and external stakeholders involved in contract execution and settlement
- Good understanding of contracts, charter parties, and key laytime/demurrage provisions, and terminology associated with the petroleum industry and commercial commodities
- Knowledge and understanding of marine and terminal operations
Education/Experience
The ideal candidate should have 5-6 years of work experience in Vessel Ops and Laytime (knowledge of vessel categories both in dry bulk and tankers), international logistics, freight. They should also possess computer proficiency (SAP, analytical tools, MS Office), and a degree in business management, logistics, or a related field.
