Job Description

The Assistant Manager Engineering is responsible for leading the Engineering Department and ensuring that the hotel is maintained in accordance with safety standards. The successful candidate will have a strong background in engineering and supervisory experience, with excellent organizational skills and ability to collaborate effectively with other hotel employees and managers.

Areas of Responsibility
  • Develops and implements strategies for achieving department goals.
  • Monitors status regularly and adjusts strategies and programs as appropriate.
  • Directs the operation of the Engineering Department.
  • Creates a safe environment for guests and employees by ensuring that the hotel is maintained in accordance with safety standards.
Responsibilities Include
  • Participates in the development and implementation of business strategies for the hotel.
  • Develops and implements strategies for achieving department goals.
  • Monitors status regularly and adjusts strategies and programs as appropriate.
  • Directs the operation of the Engineering Department.
  • Creates a safe environment for guests and employees by ensuring that the hotel is maintained in accordance with safety standards.
  • Ensures hotel adheres to all regulatory and safety standards by meeting with government and insurance inspectors and taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Keeps all mechanical, electrical and structural blueprints up to date.
  • Ensures that staff is up to date on certifications and training necessary to maintain operating systems.
  • Prepares engineering budget; monitors actual versus budgeted expenses and takes corrective actions when necessary.
  • Develops and implements strategies and practices which support employee engagement.
  • Provides employees with the orientation and training needed to understand expectations and perform job responsibilities.
  • Communicates performance expectations and provides employees with on-going feedback.
  • Provides employees with coaching and counseling as needed to achieve performance objectives and reach their fullest potential.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 7 to 12 years work experience in the hotel industry in Engineering.
  • Minimum one two years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Bachelors degree preferred.
  • Able to resolve conflicts between guests, supervisor and employee.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with other hotel employees and managers to ensure teamwork.
  • Advance knowledge of building management and engineering.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • General understanding of insurance requirements.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in a union environment.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration and life safety operating systems.
