Summary of This Role

As a lead software engineer, you will be responsible for leading cross-functional teams to provide agile-based project deliverables and facilitate the team's work to accelerate delivery of business value by ensuring adherence to Scrum methodologies and processes. You will facilitate internal and external communication, remove impediments, and serve as the intermediary between multiple product owners, managers, and team members. Using strong communication, you will facilitate the project team through the Scrum process of Release Planning, Sprint Planning for multiple product owners, Daily Scrums, Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities. You will set the example for Agile methods based upon the designated principles and ensure they are understood and exercised consistently within the team.

What Part Will You Play?

  1. Uses the ability to communicate clearly and concisely to conduct Daily Scrum meetings. Guides and develops clear Sprint standards while keeping team engaged and on task. Responsible for enacting Scrum values and practices. Provides updates on the team's performance, removing impediments that hinder team progress and facilitates Grooming/Refinement, Sprint Planning, Demos, Retrospectives and Daily Standup meetings for the assigned team(s). Guides team to adhere to working agreements, helps to resolve impediments and creates a culture of continuous improvement by fostering empowerment and promoting best practices for platform maintenance and development. Creates a team environment by establishing trust and transparency through collaboration & communication.
  2. Promotes a collaborative team environment that fosters creativity and innovation. Engages team with making appropriate commitments through story selection and task definition; encourages discussion and conflict resolution. Initiates, builds and maintains positive relationships with IT and internal customers to help facilitate effective completion of project work.
  3. Partners with the development leads or appropriate team member for capacity planning and resource allocation in Agile tools. Guards and shields the team(s) from distractions and interruptions from external interferences.
  4. Coaches teams to break down business requirements into stories and tasks. Promotes and leads team to continuous improvement of structure, processes and tooling to enable the teams to deliver increased value. Champions accountability within and outside the team. Routinely demonstrates a good understanding of the overall business and of the business and technical terms presented.
  5. Uses strong analytical and problem resolution skills to identify difficult sources of impediments.

What Are We Looking For in This Role?

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Is a subject matter expert on Scrum and Agile practices with the ability to train non-Agile team members on best practices
  2. Must be self-motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities and tasks as delegated
  3. Serve as liaison between technical and non-technical departments
  4. Communicate with other management, developers, product managers and technical support specialists on product issues
  5. Must be a team player with the ability to work within a collaborative environment
  6. Organize and facilitate project planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, demos and other Scrum-related meetings
  7. Track and communicate team velocity and sprint/release progress
  8. Maintain process documentation
  9. Ensure the development teams are practicing the core agile principles of collaboration, prioritization, team accountability, and visibility
  10. Assist in the estimation of project resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
  11. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  12. Drive to continuously improve the team's process
  13. Assist as needed with backlog maintenance
  14. Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
  15. Assist with prioritization and resolution of defects/bugs
  16. Assist team with making appropriate commitments through story selection, task definition
  17. Participate proactively in developing and maintaining team standards, tools, and best practices
  18. Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution
  19. Empower the team to self-organize
  20. Provide metrics (through Rally) to the Development manager. Some of the metrics include the number of defects found in QA and Class A, their classification, trends, etc.
  21. Work with the Development manager on project priorities, product backlog, and sprint logs
  22. Work with the Scrum teams, Product Owner and the Development Manager to make sure the projects are delivered on time with high quality keeping the Product Team happy.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in a technical field or combination of relevant education and experience
  2. Certified Scrum Master
  3. 3-5 years experience working within Scrum teams with 3+ years as a Scrum Master
  4. Proven experience on multiple small Scrum teams required
  5. Experience in both Waterfall and Agile methodologies and transitioning teams from Waterfall to Agile.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse personality types
  7. Ability to understand technical issues at a high level
  8. Thorough understanding of Agile software development methodologies, values, and procedures
  9. Proven ability to work independently with limited supervision and with other department personnel
  10. Must have exceptional communication, organization, and time management skills
  11. Must be self-motivated as well as creative and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems
  12. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
  13. Excellent communication skills in English, including both writing and speaking
  14. POS Terminal experience a strong plus
  15. Experience in Rally highly preferable
  16. Scrum Master Certification - (Required Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM1), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) or SAFe Agilist (SA) depending on certifying organization)
  17. Competency with Google Suite applications and other collaboration tools.
  18. Is viewed as a local expert on Lean, Agile, and Systems Thinking
  19. Has 2+ years experience implementing and working with other Lean / Agile principles/frameworks
