Job Purpose
Plan, develop and oversee implementation of market-leading manufacturing methods for new or existing products and technologies while driving quality, safety and efficiency improvements for all manufacturing operations and compliance with safety, state and central regulations in the relevant field.

Manage the research & development activities with focus on product and process innovations, new product development, testing, process automation, cost reduction, document control and efficiency .

Primary Responsibilities
Strategic
Participate in corporate strategy formulation for launching new product. In coordination with Business Planning, Supply Chain and concerned unit leadership teams, evaluate and propose decisions around capacity augmentation and value chain analysis (e.g. in-house-vs.-outsourcing, green field vs. brown field, local vs. central vendors etc.)
Survey the domestic / global market and explore new and emerging solar technologies; evaluate potential for their use at Vikram Solar in line with targeted growth plans.
Lead identification of technology partnerships and collaborations based on a detailed assessment and analysis of the potential synergies and benefits .
Provide overall direction to the research & development activities with focus on product and process innovations, new product development, process automation and testing to support value creation
Financial
Lead budget planning for R&D, Manufacturing unit(s) and ensure adherence to the same
Lead forums on cost saving (through process improvements and reduction in operational expenses overhead) in collaboration with the manufacturing & R&D teams to drive a culture of cost consciousness.
Focus on positive Role on investments made in product, process R&D through tangible improvements on performance metrics such as resource, quality, cost improvements, readiness to serve new market etc.)
Process
Participate and actively contribute in Sales and Operations Planning process to ensure alignment of manufacturing capabilities.
Establish guidelines for safety and drive policy advocacy with relevant statutory, governmental bodies as a management representative; Liaison with key internal-external stakeholders, government authorities to ensure unhindered technical operations.
Build in-house capabilities for conceptualizing the product design and to critique and challenge external designs
Interact with the R&D team members, strategic sourcing and sales teams to understand new products, manufacturing methods in the market and evaluate business cases to improve the existing product line.
Formulate development and drive implementation of objectives, policies, procedures and systems pertaining to quality assurance.
Undertake detailed analysis on process measures (OEE, lead time, rejection rate) etc. to derive radical/incremental solutions for improvement with respect to the new product/s.
Undertake detailed analysis of the new product/s in the context of production performance (vis-à-vis competition ) under different conditions/applications to determine gaps to customer needs/areas of product improvement.
Support Sales & Marketing teams in new product development in line with identified customer needs/new applications through technology evaluation & proposal submissions
Focus on improving product quality through product re-engineering, process improvement and automation.
Help define the integration of PV products to the final application (building-integrated PV, PV farms). Suggest and develop PV products and services that can be offered to Vikram Solar customers.
Establish robust frameworks and methodologies to ensure standardization of appropriate documentation at various stages of new product development and process innovations.
Monitor compliance with IMS, EHS and other certification standards and guide closure of open non-compliances across units.
Play a critical role of project manager for new technology adoption/ new product (modules) proto-typing and pilot runs; Update and submit progress reports to senior and top management for reviews and approvals; Track project milestones and deliverables and ensure that all projects are completed on time, within budget, scope and with proper technical documentation
Undertake primary research through market visits, expo visits to scan PV products/applications in the market to conceptualize/reverse engineer product/manufacturing methods.
Support exploration of alternative materials/indigenization of materials used in module manufacturing/project sites by working in collaboration with the sourcing teams; Undertake assessment/feasibility studies to provide technical evaluation reports.
Ensure adherence to the frameworks, methodologies and documentation standards at various stages of new product development and process innovations.
Work closely with the Legal & CS team to ensure all relevant international regulations/norms/standards related to R&D activities are complied with.
Develop and implement metrics to monitor and track global quality compliance requirements (including certification requirements such as TUV Rheiland, UL, UL CEC etc) and communicate these standards to all technical operations team members
Work closely with Quality Assurance to bring about efficiency improvements by identifying production bottlenecks and ensuring elimination of the same
People
Drive a performance driven culture in the organization by timely monitoring, review of performance parameters and feedback to the team members
Contribute towards development of talent for the function by providing subordinates with adequate exposure and growth opportunities to enable readiness for higher roles
Actively participate as Function Head / Line Manager in HR initiatives to drive overall employee engagement and motivation

F. Role Requirements / Specifications
Desired Qualifications
M Tech in Electrical Engineering. Doctorate in the relevant field shall be preferred .
Desired Experience
12-15 years with 5- 8 years of relevant experience in managing R&D in solar sector organizations; Have had at least 2-3 years of experience in module manufacturing / plant administration
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of the solar module manufacturing process
Deep exposure to production innovations, process re-engineering
Understanding of plant efficiency methods
Knowledge of the principles and practices of plant operation, including Production, Maintenance, Quality control, Health, Safety, Security & Environment and Material Management
