We collaborate with our development teams in science, mechanical and electrical engineering, physics, and geoscience to develop innovative software. Partner with the bestThis is a senior engineering role specializing in variable speed drives and power conversion systems, responsible for advanced electrical research, design, and testing of drive products and control systems, defining hardware architecture and performance requirements, leading early development phases, and applying deep expertise in power electronics, motor control, and analog/digital electronics while ensuring safety, compliance, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.As a Electrical Hardware Engineer, you will be responsible for:Designing, developing, and testing variable speed drives, motor control circuits, and power electronic systemsConducting/overseeing prototype builds for compliance to specifications, efficiency, and reliabilityCreating electrical schematics and PCBAs for power stage, control boards, and gate driver circuitsDesigning Altium-based wire harnesses and cabling for drive systems, including BOM generation and routing optimizationSelecting components (IGBTs, SiC/MOSFETs, gate drivers, magnetics, sensors, protection circuits) for drive applicationsDeveloping and executing VSD performance verification test plans (efficiency, harmonic distortion, thermal, EMI/EMC)Analyzing failure modes, reliability, and drive performance improvementsDeveloping mathematical models of motor-drive systems to guide design and validationTroubleshooting and refining prototypes/final products for power density, thermal, and manufacturability targetsResolving failure issues and identifying root causes; qualify alternate components for obsolete or supply-chain constrained partsCreating and maintaining documentation: BOMs, harness drawings, ECNs/EDNs, test procedures, and design packagesProviding sustaining engineering support for existing VSD products and addressing field-return/production issuesCollaborating with Product Management and Procurement to drive cost reductions and performance improvementsEvaluating and introducing new power semiconductors, passive components, manufacturing techniques, and design toolsManaging prototype procurement, supplier quoting, ordering, and material inspectionEnsuring compliance with UL, CE, IEC , and IEEE 519 standards for variable speed drivesCoordinating with external labs for compliance (safety, EMC/EMI, efficiency testing)Supporting the company's Quality Management System (ISO 9001 and customer requirements)Training and mentoring junior engineers on PCB, harness design, and VSD development practicesFuel your passionHave a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years relevant experienceHave experience in designing variable speed drives (VSDs), motor control circuits, and power stages.Have knowledge of IGBTs, SiC/MOSFETs, gate drivers, magnetics, sensors, and protection circuits.Have experience in creating schematics and PCB layouts for control boards and gate driver circuits.Be proficient in tools like Altium Designer for PCB and harness design.Have understanding AC/DC motor types, control algorithms (FOC, V/f), and drive topologies.Be familiar with UL, CE, IEC , IEEE 519, and EMI/EMC requirements.Have experience in developing and executing test plans for efficiency, harmonic distortion, thermal, and EMI/EMC.Have prior experience in Root cause analysis, failure mode analysis, and qualification of alternate components.Have the ability to model motor-drive systems for design and validation.Have experience in BOM creation, ECNs/EDNs, test procedures, and design packages.Have understanding ISO 9001 and customer-specific quality requirements.Have exposure to debugging prototypes and final products for power density, thermal, and manufacturability.Good to have experience in Altium-based harness and cabling design, routing optimization.Good to have exposure to managing prototype procurement, supplier quoting, and material inspection.Preferred to have experience in working with Product Management and Procurement for cost reduction.Preferred to have experience with MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, or similar for system-level modeling.Preferred to have experience in introducing new semiconductors, passive components, and design tools.Desired to have experience in training junior engineers on PCB and VSD development practices.Desired to have experience in handling compliance testing for safety, EMC/EMI, and efficiency. Work in a way that works for youWe recognise that everyone is different and that the way in which people want to work and deliver at their best is different for everyone too.
