About Mitti Labs Mitti Labs is a climate-tech startup dedicated to transforming the rice industry by supporting smallholder farmers in adopting sustainable practices Our mission is to bring AI and satellite technology into traditional rice farming reducing methane emissions while improving farmer livelihoods Backed by NASA-supported science and a strong ecosystem of partners we work with global corporations to help them achieve their net-zero goals through verified high-quality carbon credits Our initiatives include launching a 40 000 farmers project in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and reducing air pollution from stubble burning in Punjab Our customers including Fortune 500 companies leading agri-businesses and global NGOs trust Mitti Labs to deliver measurable impact across climate food systems and sustainability We are a team of 30 data scientists agronomists engineers and operators including leaders in NASA s SAR program with decades of expertise in remote sensing and GHG modeling Role Description We re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who can design build and scale robust backend systems powering data-driven applications You will play a key role in architecting and developing services using Golang and Python both must-have while also leveraging your broader backend expertise across cloud infrastructure databases and geospatial data systems This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems working with distributed systems and collaborating closely with data and product teams to deliver impactful solutions Design build and maintain scalable backend systems and APIs with a strong focus on reliability and performance Contribute hands-on in Golang and Python while also bringing experience in other backend technologies as needed Architect and optimize PostgreSQL databases including PostGIS for geospatial data handling Design and deploy backend services on AWS ensuring scalability fault tolerance and security Collaborate with data science teams to integrate analytical models and data workflows into production Own the entire lifecycle of backend features from design and implementation to monitoring and optimization Mentor junior engineers and participate actively in architectural discussions and code reviews Implement best practices for CI CD observability and system design Requirements 10 years of experience in backend software development Strong hands-on expertise in Golang and Python both are must-have Solid understanding of PostgreSQL PostGIS and relational data modeling Proven experience with AWS services ECS Lambda RDS S3 IAM etc Experience building RESTful and or gRPC APIs microservices and distributed systems Familiarity with containerization Docker Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code Terraform CloudFormation Understanding of data science workflows model serving or working with analytical data pipelines Frontend knowledge JavaScript and web development to collaborate closely with frontend engineer on API contracts data structures and integration Pagination experience designing and implementing pagination for large datasets API optimization experience refactoring bulky APIs into smaller efficient endpoints unbundling data aggregation strategies Strong fundamentals in algorithms system design and software architecture Nice to Have Experience with geospatial data processing ETL pipelines or data orchestration tools Airflow Prefect Dagster Exposure to message queues or event-driven systems Kafka SQS Pub Sub Knowledge of data engineering or ML model deployment concepts Benefits Be at the frontline of climate-tech Mitti Labs is tackling the methane emissions and water-intensive practices of rice farming a major global climate lever that few organisations are focussed on You ll work with satellite AI field-data to drive real change not just build features High-impact global platform deep local action The company s work spans from smallholder farmers in India and Southeast Asia to global carbon markets and buyers You ll have the opportunity to interface with both real-world farm operations and high-level climate finance Work with a mission-driven elite team in a dynamic growth environment Mitti Labs is backed by top investors Lightspeed Voyager and led by a team with deep expertise in agriculture carbon science and tech If you join you ll be in a high-growth startup environment where your contributions matter iteration is rapid priorities evolve and you ll see your work have tangible impact on climate and livelihoods
