Apply today and be part of something extraordinary Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator Lead to join our engineering organization to drive database strategy, optimization, and cloud transformation initiatives. This role requires a seasoned professional who can balance technical excellence with team leadership while ensuring our database infrastructure supports business-critical applications at scale. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership - Lead database architecture decisions across multiple technology stacks (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL databases) - Design and implement highly available, scalable database solutions on Azure cloud platform - Establish database standards, best practices, and governance frameworks - Drive performance optimization initiatives achieving sub-second query response times - Architect disaster recovery and business continuity strategies with RPO/RTO targets Cloud & DevOps - Manage Azure database services (Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, Azure Database for PostgreSQL/MySQL) - Implement Infrastructure as Code using ARM templates, Terraform, or Bicep - Design CI/CD pipelines for database deployments using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions - Automate database provisioning, scaling, and maintenance operations - Implement cost optimization strategies for cloud database resources Scripting & Automation - Develop complex automation scripts using PowerShell, Python, or Bash - Create database maintenance scripts for backup, restore, indexing, and cleanup operations - Build monitoring and alerting frameworks using scripting languages - Automate database deployment processes including schema migrations and data synchronization - Develop custom tools for database administration and troubleshooting Team & Stakeholder Management - Mentor junior DBAs and database developers - Collaborate with development teams on database design and query optimization - Partner with DevOps teams on deployment strategies and automation - Provide 24x7 on-call support leadership for production database issues - Present technical recommendations to senior management Experience RequirementsRequired Qualifications - 10+ years of hands-on database administration experience - 5+ years working with Azure cloud platform and database services - 3+ years in a lead or senior DBA role - Proven experience managing databases supporting 1M+ users or high-transaction systems Technical Skills - Database Platforms: Expert-level knowledge in SQL Server, PostgreSQL; working knowledge of MongoDB, Cosmos DB, Redis - Scripting Languages: Advanced proficiency in PowerShell, Python, T-SQL, PL/pgSQL - Azure Services: Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse - DevOps Tools: Azure DevOps, Git, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes - Monitoring: Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Datadog, or similar APM tools - Performance Tuning: Query optimization, index strategies, execution plan analysis, database engine internals Deployment & Automation - Experience with database version control and migration tools (Flyway, Liquibase, SSDT) - Implementing blue-green deployments and rolling updates for zero-downtime releases - Database containerization and orchestration - Automated testing frameworks for database changes - Experience with database DevOps practices and shift-left testing Preferred Qualifications - Azure database certifications (DP-300, DP-900) - Experience with multi-region database architectures - Knowledge of data compliance requirements (GDPR, PCI-DSS, HIPAA) - Experience with real-time data streaming (Kafka, Event Hubs) - Familiarity with data warehousing and analytics platforms Key Competencies - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Excellent communication skills to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders - Ability to work independently and drive initiatives to completion - Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments - Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing practices What We Offer - Opportunity to work on large-scale, business-critical systems - Lead role in cloud transformation initiatives - Work with cutting-edge database technologies and tools - Collaborative environment with cross-functional teams - Professional development and certification support
