Role Overview This is an editorial and growth role that combines deep content craft with a strong marketing mindset. As Content Engineer for Newsletters, you'll own the newsletter as a product, shaping its editorial direction, voice, visual identity and performance. You'll be responsible for ensuring that each issue informs, engages and grows a loyal audience of tech professionals, while driving measurable impact in audience growth, revenue and sponsorship performance. You'll act as both an editor and a product manager, developing a distinct editorial voice, commissioning and curating standout content, testing formats and cadence and using analytics to refine tone, layout and conversion strategies. Collaborating with other stakeholders, you'll turn the newsletter into a core engagement and monetization channel for the vertical. While the primary focus is newsletters, you'll also contribute to event-linked content, such as reviewing event programs, extracting insights and creating derived content that extends reach across LinkedIn, X and other distribution platforms. You'll help connect newsletter and event ecosystems, ensuring consistent messaging and maximizing audience impact. What You Will Do You'll operate at the intersection of editorial, growth and commercial strategy, shaping the product and leading initiatives that grow audience and revenue. Newsletter Ownership & Growth - Define, execute and evolve the editorial and product strategy for your newsletters. - Experiment with tone, cadence, structure and creative formats to drive engagement and retention. - Test and optimize format, layout, visual identity and performance metrics. - Use analytics to track open/click rates, subscriber growth and revenue conversion (ads/sponsorship). - Manage sponsorship placements and commercial integrations within newsletters. Editorial & Content Development - Own the end-to-end production and strategy of flagship newsletters from editorial planning, tone and design to performance and monetization - Commission, edit and produce multi-format products (articles, interviews, explainers, digests, etc.) aligned with the needs of developers, data scientists and other tech pros. - Coach contributors to deliver high-value, practitioner-led insights that are clear, engaging and actionable. - Maintain editorial standards of clarity, accuracy and tone across all newsletter and event content. Audience Growth & Marketing Strategy - Develop and execute newsletter growth initiatives, including lead magnets, referral programs and partnerships. - Work with Growth and Design teams to create and test acquisition campaigns. - Manage newsletter sponsorships and brand partnerships from pricing and pitch input to ad placement and performance reporting. - Contribute to creation and evolution of media kits and sponsor assets. - Collaborate with marketing teams to distribute and repurpose newsletter content across owned and social channels (LinkedIn, X, etc.). - Track and report on key growth and monetization metrics: subscriber acquisition, churn, click-through rate, sponsorship revenue, conversion performance, etc. Collaboration & Experimentation - Work closely with internal teams to package and distribute content effectively. - Use AI and automation tools to accelerate content creation, editing and publishing across formats. - Experiment with new storytelling forms, from topical briefings and explainers to interactive recaps and community AMAs. Events & Derived Content Integration - Review event decks, transcripts and recordings to understand how newsletters can promote events, and events can provide derived content for newsletters. - Use audience and community insight to partner with Relationship Leads to shape event agendas and speaker lists. - Collaborate with speakers to secure content and community interaction. - Work with internal teams to ensure seamless publishing of derived content into Packt's ecosystem. Must-have skills: - 35 years experience in content creation, editing or journalism for technical or B2B audiences. - Strong editorial judgment with the ability to translate complex topics into engaging, audience-relevant narratives. - Proven experience managing and growing newsletters end-to-end from editorial planning and production to subscriber growth and retention. - Experience managing sponsorships, brand partnerships or ad placements within editorial or newsletter products. - Comfortable creating media kits and reporting on campaign performance. - Excellent writing, editing and coaching skills; able to manage multiple contributors and internal stakeholders. - Able to use analytics and performance data to track and iterate on engagement, conversion and revenue metrics. - Familiarity with email marketing, analytics and content tools and AI-assisted production workflows. - Understanding of newsletter monetization models (ads, sponsorships, community upsell, partnerships, etc.). Good-to-have skills: - Background in tech publishing, journalism or developer ecosystems. - Experience collaborating with speakers, creators or subject matter experts on events. - Ability to think commercially, understanding how content drives subscriptions, sponsorship and audience growth. - Familiarity with SEO, social media copywriting or newsletter growth tactics.
