Role Introduction As HPC Expert & Service Owner, you will be responsible for managing and modernizing Syensqo's High Performance Computing platforms, which are at the core of our digital science and innovation capabilities. You will ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of HPC environments used by researchers and engineers, enabling breakthrough simulations, modeling, and data-intensive workloads. This role combines technical expertise with service ownership, requiring close collaboration with scientists, IT specialists, and external partners to deliver a best-in-class HPC service aligned with Syensqo's business and sustainability ambitions. Key Responsibilities Vision & Strategy - Define and maintain the roadmap for HPC services, ensuring alignment with research, engineering, and digital priorities. - Evaluate emerging HPC technologies (cloud, hybrid, GPU/accelerated computing, quantum readiness) to shape the future of Syensqo's scientific computing landscape. - Establish service standards, performance KPIs, and governance models for HPC operations. - Partner with stakeholders to ensure HPC resources support innovation in materials science, AI/ML workloads, and sustainability-driven research. Service Ownership & Operations - Act as the primary owner of Syensqo's HPC environments, ensuring availability, reliability, and security. - Oversee daily operations including scheduling, monitoring, and incident management. - Optimize compute, storage, and network resources to balance performance, cost, and sustainability. - Manage vendor and service provider relationships to guarantee service quality and innovation. - Ensure compliance with enterprise IT standards, cybersecurity policies, and regulatory requirements. Collaboration & User Enablement - Partner with researchers, data scientists, and engineers to support complex simulation and modeling workloads. - Provide expertise, guidance, and training to maximize the scientific impact of HPC usage. - Promote best practices in HPC, parallel programming, and cloud/HPC hybrid models. - Actively gather feedback from users to drive continuous improvement of HPC services. Qualifications & Experience - Proven experience in High Performance Computing operations, engineering, or service management. - Strong expertise in HPC infrastructure (clusters, schedulers, storage, networking, GPU/accelerated computing). - Familiarity with cloud-based HPC and hybrid architectures. - Hands-on experience with Linux environments, containerization, and automation frameworks. - Exposure to AI/ML workloads and scientific applications is a plus. - Experience with ITIL or service management frameworks is desirable.
