We embed our proprietary technology into helmets and wearables through B2B partnerships with global brands. With a strong foothold in motorcycling and a strategic focus on cycling and industrial safety, our technology is already trusted by top names across the U.S. and Europe. We are a fast-moving, purpose-driven team building industry-leading technology that brings intelligence into safety gear. Every product we ship has a tangible impact, and every engineer at Quin has the opportunity to shape technology that protects lives. Why Quin - Define the Future of Motion Intelligence: This isn't an execution role, it's a leadership position where you'll set the technical vision for Quin's core algorithms. Your architectural decisions will guide the company for years to come. - Solve Genuinely Hard Problems: Real-time crash detection from noisy IMU signals. Distinguishing true crashes from false positives. Sensor fusion across multiple modalities. Physics-informed ML models. These are fundamental, challenging problems at the frontier of motion analysis. - Lead with Impact: You'll mentor engineers, drive technical strategy, and see your algorithms protecting riders worldwide. Your work sets the competitive advantage that makes Quin the leader in smart safety. - Shape Product Direction: Work directly with founders and product leaders to define what we build next. Your technical expertise directly influences company strategy and product roadmap. Mission Lead Quin's motion intelligence platform, architect advanced IMU-based crash detection and behavioral sensing algorithms that form the core of our safety technology. About The Role We are seeking a Principal Motion Algorithm Engineer with 610 years of experience to lead the technical vision and execution of our motion algorithm platform. This is the most senior IC technical role in motion algorithms, you'll be the architect of our crash detection, motion analysis, and sensor fusion systems. You will define the long-term technical roadmap, set performance benchmarks, architect next-generation algorithms, and mentor the engineering team. You'll work at the intersection of signal processing, physics, and machine learning to build the industry's most accurate and reliable crash detection system. This role requires deep expertise in IMU-based systems, sensor fusion, and motion analysis, combined with the ability to translate complex physics into practical, production-ready algorithms. You should have a track record of shipping algorithms in real-world products and the vision to push beyond current state-of-the-art. If you're a technical leader who loves hard motion analysis problems, wants to architect systems that save lives, and thrives on mentoring engineers while driving technical excellence, this is the role for you. What You'll Do At Quin, this isn't just a job, it's a mission. Here's how you'll make an impact: - Set the Technical Vision: Define the long-term algorithm roadmap, set performance targets that push the industry forward, and architect the next generation of motion intelligence systems. Your vision guides the team's work for years. - Architect Sensor Fusion Systems: Design sophisticated multi-sensor fusion algorithms combining IMU, magnetometer, barometer, GPS, and BLE RSSI data. Create holistic understanding of motion, context, and crash dynamics from diverse sensor streams. - Build Physics-Informed ML Hybrid Models: Develop advanced algorithms that combine classical physics-based models with machine learning approaches. Achieve both explainability and superior performance by leveraging domain knowledge and data-driven techniques. - Design Validation Methodologies: Create comprehensive test protocols for crash scenarios, riding behaviors, and industrial safety applications. Define how we measure algorithm performance and validate improvements systematically. - Optimize Firmware-Algorithm Interface: Work with firmware engineers to optimize algorithm implementation for embedded systems. Balance algorithmic sophistication with computational constraints while maintaining performance. - Lead Field Testing Programs: Design and oversee large-scale field validation campaigns. Analyze thousands of rides, captures, and edge cases to continuously improve algorithm robustness. - Mentor and Develop Engineers: Provide technical leadership to motion and firmware engineers. Conduct design reviews, guide problem-solving, and accelerate team capability. Build a culture of technical excellence. - Drive Innovation: Stay at the forefront of motion analysis research, evaluate new techniques, publish findings, and integrate cutting-edge approaches into our platform. Represent Quin technically in the industry. - Partner Across Functions: Collaborate with product, hardware, ML, and firmware teams to ensure algorithms meet both technical and business requirements. Translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. Basic Qualifications - 610 years of professional experience in motion algorithms, IMU-based systems, robotics, or related fields - Master's or Ph.D. in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) - Deep expertise in sensor fusion, Kalman filtering, particle filters, and state estimation techniques - Strong programming skills in both Python (for research and prototyping) and C/C++ (for embedded deployment) - Expert knowledge of signal processing: FFT, filtering, spectral analysis, wavelet transforms, and time-frequency methods - Strong understanding of kinematics, dynamics, rigid body motion, and motion physics - Proven track record of shipping algorithms in production systems and solving real-world motion analysis problems - Demonstrated leadership experience mentoring engineers and driving technical strategy Good to Have - Experience in automotive safety systems, industrial safety, sports technology, or helmet/impact sensing - Background in crash biomechanics, impact analysis, or safety standards (Snell, DOT, ECE) - Experience with motion capture systems, gait analysis, or human motion modeling - Published research in top-tier conferences or journals on motion analysis, sensor fusion, or related topics - Experience leading technical teams, conducting design reviews, and driving engineering best practices - Deep knowledge of BLE RSSI-based localization, proximity detection, and wireless sensor networks - Understanding of safety certification requirements (ISO 26262, IEC 61508) and regulatory processes - Experience with real-time embedded algorithm optimization and deployment Why You'll Love Working Here - Technical Leadership: Set the direction. Architect systems. Make decisions that matter. This is genuine technical leadership, not management. - Hard Problems: Work on algorithm challenges at the frontier of motion intelligence. Publish-worthy problems that push the state of the art. - Massive Impact: Your algorithms are the core competitive advantage. When Quin detects crashes better than anyone else, it's because of your work. - Mentor and Build: Develop engineers, elevate team capabilities, and build an engineering culture you're proud of. - See Global Impact: Watch your algorithms protecting riders across the US, Europe, and beyond. See crash detection saves, emergency responses, and lives protected. - Work with Experts: Collaborate with world-class hardware, firmware, ML, and product teams who share your commitment to excellence. - Shape Strategy: Your technical vision directly influences company direction, product roadmap, and strategic decisions. Your Impact Your intelligence stack is the core safety engine of Quin products. The algorithms you architect determine how accurately we detect crashes, how quickly we respond to emergencies, how well we understand rider behavior, and ultimately how many lives we save. Your work creates the fundamental competitive advantage that makes Quin the best in the industry. Engineers will build on your foundations for years to come.
