About GoodBye Leprosy Trust:
Established in 2013, GoodBye Leprosy (GBL) is an alliance for action to inform, innovate and inspire for policy advocacy; to eradicate leprosy, and to rebuild lives and enable inclusion of people affected by leprosy, in India.

GBL aims to revitalize India's approach to stop the occurrence and recurrence of leprosy; and reduce the debilitating consequences of leprosy with greater involvement of stakeholders and civil society, in collaboration with the government and evolution of policy and programmes.

We are now looking for a suitable candidate for the position ‘Programme officer of Public Engagement and Communications’.  The selected candidate will play a pivotal role (includes but not restricted to) in fostering public engagement,  sensitization, raising awareness  and strategically communicating the organization's mission and initiatives.

This position requires a unique combination of public outreach and communication skills, sensitivity to the subject matter, and a passion for advocating for the cause of leprosy and people affected by leprosy. The Position will report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Key Responsibilities:
Public Engagement and Outreach:
  • Develop and implement public engagement and relations building strategies to enhance the GBL’s image, visibility and resources for leprosy.
  • Cultivate relationships with corporates, schools, media outlets, journalists, and influencers to promote the organization's engagement activities and secure coverage.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the GBL in interactions with the public and media.

Communication Strategy:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with the GBL's mission and goals.
  • Create, oversee, facilitate engaging content for various platforms, including press releases, social media, newsletters, and the organization's website.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels including responding to inquiries, and address concerns promptly.
  • Collect and share personal stories and case studies to humanize the experiences of individuals affected by leprosy.
  • Develop or get developed multimedia content, including videos and interviews, to showcase the positive impact of the GBL’s interventions.

Community Engagement:
  • Foster positive relationships with the community through events, outreach programs, and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify opportunities for community engagement and participation.
  • Develop and maintain a network of stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, and community leaders.

Dialogue, Advocacy and Campaigns:
  • Initiate dialogue, plan and execute  advocacy campaigns to promote the GBL’s mission and influence public opinion.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to build coalitions and support for key initiatives.

Internal Communication & Management:
  • Coordinates and facilitates with all (Internal & external) to be informed with accuracy and consistency and aligned with the organization's goals.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation by establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of communication and engagement efforts.
  • Regularly assess and report on the impact of engagement and communication strategies, making adjustments as needed.
  • Assist in developing and managing the budget for public engagement and communications activities.
  • Allocate resources effectively to maximize impact and achieve organizational goals.

Qualification and Skills:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Public relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 2 to 3 years proven experience in public relations, communications, or a similar role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with familiarity to social media platforms and digital marketing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally within a diverse team.
  • Knowledge of issues related to the GBL's mission is an asset.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
