M.B.T focus (Modular Building Technology)We are committed to building fast, safe, intuitive beneficial MBT that will have a massive positive impact on people’s future.Anything that doesn’t help with that is out of scope.Intense and scrappyBuilding something exceptional requires hard work (often on unglamorous stuff) and urgency; everything (that we choose to do) is important.Be unpretentious and do what works; find the best ideas wherever they come from.ScaleWe believe that scale—in our models, our systems, ourselves, our processes, and our ambitions—is magic. When in doubt, scale it up.Make something people loveOur technology and products should have a transformatively positive effect on people’s lives.Team spiritOur biggest advances, and differentiation, come from effective collaboration in and across teams. Although our teams have increasingly different identities and priorities, the overall purpose and goals have to remain perfectly aligned.Nothing is someone else’s problem.

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic modular construction firm. You will utilize your expertise in Solidworks, sheet metal design, and simulations to design, analyze, and document efficient mechanical systems for our prefabricated units and co-ordinate with the Procurement, Manufacturing & Onsite construction team to effectively communicate purchase, process & usage of all required mechanical components Etc. Additionally, you will be instrumental in the selection of required Electrical & plumbing materials required for modular units as well as creating a BOM Quantity take-off sheet to effectively orchestrate efficient supply & usage of materials.

Primary Responsibilities:

Solidworks Mastermind:Utilize Solidworks to create detailed and accurate 3D models and 2D drawings of mechanical systems for modular units.Ensure designs comply with all relevant building codes and engineering standards.Develop design libraries and templates for efficient model creation and standardization.Understanding of mechanical fastening methods and their suitability for modular construction (e.g., bolts, welds, adhesives).Knowledge of building envelope design principles, including air barrier and water barrier considerations.Familiarity with various window and door systems used in modular construction.Sheet Metal Design Champion:Apply your knowledge of sheet metal fabrication techniques to design cost-effective and manufacturable components for our modular units.Optimize sheet metal designs for strength, weight, and ease of assembly.Simulation Specialist:Utilize Solidworks simulations to analyze the functionality, performance, and potential failure modes of your designs.Refine and optimize designs based on simulation results to ensure optimal real-world performance.Streamlined Documentation:Develop and maintain comprehensive design documentation packages, including drawings, specifications, and bill of materials (BOMs).Ensure documentation is clear, accurate, and up-to-date for all project stakeholders.Communication Bridge:Effectively communicate design intent and technical specifications through clear and concise drawings, reports, and presentations.Collaborate with procurement, manufacturing, and on-site construction teams to ensure smooth implementation of your designs.

Evaluation Criteria:Modular Construction Mechanical Engineer Performance Review.

1. First Principle Thinking (Problem-Solving with Clarity)Information Evaluation: Does the engineer demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate information and identify the most relevant data for solving design challenges.Challenging Assumptions: Does the engineer actively question existing practices and propose innovative solutions based on fundamental principles.Independent Problem-Solving: Can the engineer break down problems into core elements and develop original solutions without relying solely on established methods.Evidence of Success:Instances where the engineer identified and addressed a previously overlooked factor leading to a problem in a modular unit design.Ability to explain their thought process and justify their design choices based on fundamental principles

2. System Thinking (Mastering the Interconnectedness)Root Cause Analysis: Does the engineer demonstrate the ability to identify the underlying cause of design or construction issues within the modular unit system.System Breakdown: Can the engineer effectively deconstruct a modular unit into its core systems and analyze their interactions.Holistic Design Approach: Does the engineer consider the big picture, ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems work seamlessly within the unit?Evidence of Success:Examples of the engineer collaborating effectively with other disciplines (electrical, plumbing) to ensure holistic system integration.Ability to explain how their design decisions impact other systems within the modular unit.

3. Design Thinking (User-Centric Innovation)User Empathy: Does the engineer consider the needs of various stakeholders (construction crew, building occupants) in their designs?Error-Proofing: Does the engineering design with human limitations in mind, minimizing the potential for installation or maintenance errors?Efficient Design: Does the engineer create intuitive and efficient mechanical systems that are easy to understand and operate?Evidence of Success:Instances where the engineer identified and addressed potential human error risks during the design phase.Feedback from construction crews or occupants regarding the ease of use and maintainability of the mechanical systems. This evaluation framework allows us to assess the Mechanical Engineer's contribution beyond technical expertise. It emphasizes their ability to think critically, solve problems holistically, and design with user needs in mind, ultimately leading to successful and efficient modular construction projects.
