Job Description: Senior Mainframe Engineer with 10 years of experience
About the Role:
We are seeking a seasoned Mainframe Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in providing application optimization support for applications developed using the IBM Mainframe Technology Stack, including JCL, COBOL, DB2, CICS, VSAM, and IDMS. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, a deep understanding of mainframe architecture, and expertise in modernization techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
Application Optimization: Enhance the performance of applications built on IBM Mainframe technologies.
System Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of mainframe system-level operations and recommend performance improvements.
Modernization: Apply your knowledge of mainframe modernization techniques to drive platform consulting and transformation initiatives.
Tool Expertise: Utilize IBM ADDI or similar reverse engineering tools, and implement reporting tools with IWS (IBM Workload Scheduler).
Migration & Transition: Lead IDMS migrations and SCM tool transitions, ensuring seamless integration and minimal disruption.
Performance Monitoring: Use tools like Omegamon and TWS to monitor and improve system performance.
Solution Design: Design comprehensive architectural models and technical specifications, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Collaboration: Work closely with Application Development/Support and Infrastructure Support Teams to coordinate efforts and achieve optimal results.
Emerging Trends: Stay abreast of emerging trends in mainframe technology and modernization practices to keep our systems cutting-edge.
Required Skills:
Technical Proficiency: Expertise in JCL, COBOL, DB2, CICS, VSAM, and IDMS.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities tailored to IBM Mainframe environments.
Tool Knowledge: Proficiency with IBM ADDI, IWS, Omegamon, and TWS.
Communication: Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
Management: Strong management capabilities, with the ability to oversee multiple initiatives concurrently.
Solution Assessment: Ability to assess and select suitable technology solutions.
Performance Analysis: Analyze performance and system reports to provide actionable improvement ideas.
