Overview of the Job

Saint-Gobain Research India, 7th Transversal R&D center for Saint-Gobain in Chennai, is looking for Research Engineer in Competency Research Lab. In this role the expectation is to support R&D projects related to polymer, Abrasives, Gypsum, Glass, and Ceramics. Candidate should have good understanding material science concepts and have hands-on experience in experimentation and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting research and development activities related to material characterization and innovation
  • Design and implement experiments for characterization and testing of materials
  • Utilize various characterization techniques such as TGA, DSC, DMA, TMA, FTIR, and strength analysis
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data to draw meaningful conclusions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions and products
  • Driving innovation in Polymer
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in the field of material science
  • High adherence to safety policy of SG
  • To independently manage to calibrate and trouble shoot instruments such as DSC, TGA, STA, DMA and TMA
  • Support all SG business for needs in terms of thermal properties, support with data interpretation and timely reporting
  • Developing new test methods and coming up with innovation
  • Delivering the Competency and BU projects following systematic project management framework

Skill & Knowledge

Strong theoretical and practical knowledge on polymer, composites, and thermodynamics

  • Hands-on experience with characterization, and testing of polymers and composite materials.
  • Familiarity with characterization techniques such as DMA, TGA, DSC, TMA, and strength analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Project management knowledge is a plus
  • Solid knowledge on mechanics of material (preferably polymer)
  • Should have strong ability to establish structure-property-process relationship and be able to apply for Root
  • Cause Analysis
  • Strong in interpretation on characterization & tests reports
  • Possess strong leadership skills -having experience in leading projects using stage gate methodology
  • Good people connect across cross-functional and multi-functional teams
  • Should possess good time management skills and should be able to prioritize based on requirement in dynamic work culture
  • Basic knowledge on statistical tools
  • Should possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • Mandatory to have good presentation skill to convey message in concise manner

Academic Qualification

PhD in Material Science and Engineering with a focus on Polymers (1-2 Years exp.)
