Job Summary:

As an Electromigration & IR Drop (EMIR) Engineer, you will be responsible for analyzing and optimizing power integrity and reliability of integrated circuits (ICs) by focusing on electromigration (EM) and IR drop (voltage drop) analysis. Your role will involve working with physical design and validation teams to ensure the robustness and performance of power delivery networks, while identifying and mitigating electromigration-related issues.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Electromigration (EM) Analysis: Perform electromigration analysis to ensure that the metal interconnects within the design meet reliability standards. Analyze current density, stress, and lifetime prediction for interconnects.
  • IR Drop Analysis: Conduct detailed IR drop analysis to identify and address voltage integrity issues in the power delivery network (PDN). Work on both static and dynamic IR drop simulations.
  • Power Grid Optimization: Collaborate with the power delivery network (PDN) team to optimize the power grid and improve current carrying capacity, decap insertion, and routing to prevent EM and IR drop issues.
  • Tools & Simulation: Use industry-standard tools for EM and IR drop analysis such as Cadence Voltus, Synopsys PrimePower, Ansys Redhawk, or similar tools.
  • Design Collaboration: Work closely with physical design, verification, and layout teams to resolve EM and IR drop issues, and validate design fixes.
  • Electromigration Mitigation: Propose and implement solutions to mitigate electromigration risks, including adjusting metal width, spacing, and enhancing the power grid.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports outlining EM and IR drop analysis, findings, optimization strategies, and present them to senior management and technical teams.
  • Cross-functional Communication: Collaborate with other teams including design, validation, and product teams to ensure overall design quality, reliability, and compliance with power and thermal specifications.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience: 6+ years of experience in electromigration and IR drop analysis in the context of VLSI/IC physical design and power integrity.
  • Tools Proficiency: Strong expertise in using EM and IR drop analysis tools like:
  • Cadence Voltus, Synopsys PrimePower, Ansys Redhawk, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of EM & IR Drop:
  • Deep understanding of electromigration effects and current density analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of IR drop, voltage integrity, and power grid optimization techniques.
  • Physical Design: Familiarity with physical design flows, layout, and power integrity constraints.
  • Problem Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve EM and IR drop issues.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills to effectively present analysis, solutions, and reports to cross-functional teams and management.
  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, VLSI, or a related field.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with advanced nodes (e.g., 7nm, 5nm, etc.) and their associated power integrity and reliability challenges.
  • Experience in electromigration and IR drop analysis for large-scale chip designs (e.g., SOCs, ASICs).
  • Familiarity with power-aware design flows and best practices for power delivery network optimization.
  • Knowledge of thermal and signal integrity analysis in IC designs.
