Join SolarWinds and grow with us About the Role We’re looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join our Observability Platform team at SolarWinds. This role is part of our Telemetry & Data APIs group —the team that powers how our customers and internal teams access and query observability data at scale. You’ll work on core platform services that handle billions of data points across logs, metrics, and traces. This is a high-impact role that combines backend engineering, API design, and large-scale data architecture. What You’ll Do Build and scale high-performance APIs for telemetry data retrieval. Design backend systems for querying and analyzing massive volumes of time-series data. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including ingestion, storage, frontend, and analytics. Drive architectural decisions and technical direction for platform APIs. Mentor engineers and lead design reviews for backend projects. What We’re Looking For 8+ years of backend engineering experience in production environments. Strong hands-on experience with Kotlin, Go, Java, or similar languages. Deep understanding of building and scaling REST and/or GraphQL APIs. Experience working with observability platforms or telemetry systems. Familiarity with time-series databases (e.g., Prometheus, InfluxDB, TimescaleDB) or graph/document databases. Proven ability to debug and optimize distributed systems for scale and performance. Nice to Have Exposure to OpenTelemetry, ClickHouse, Tempo, or similar systems. Experience building developer-facing APIs or platform services. Please Note This is not a junior or generalist role. We’re currently only considering experienced backend engineers with a proven track record in API development and large-scale data systems.
