Mahila Housing Trust (MHT) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Geo-Social AI Project Lead to spearhead an innovative project focused on developing a city-level heat resilience model for Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. This project will serve as an archetype for mid-size urban towns across India, leveraging the power of AI and community engagement to mitigate the impacts of extreme heat on vulnerable populations.

Job Description

The Geo-Social AI Project Lead will play a pivotal role in all aspects of the project, from conceptualization and design to implementation and evaluation. The role demands a strong understanding of Geo-AI technologies, a passion for social impact, and excellent stakeholder management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of a Geo-AI model to identify Urban Heat Islands (UHI) in Ahmedabad using citizen science.
  • Oversee the collection, processing, and analysis of data from various sources, including satellite imagery, weather stations, and ground-level observations.
  • Collaborate closely with community stakeholders, particularly women in urban slums, to incorporate local knowledge and ensure community-centric solutions.
  • Design and implement "cool routes," leveraging GIS mapping and community feedback to identify and enhance pedestrian pathways that offer respite from extreme heat.
  • Liaise with government officials at the city and state levels to ensure project buy-in, data integration, and policy advocacy for heat action plans.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and reporting requirements, ensuring timely delivery of project milestones and deliverables.
  • Lead capacity building workshops and trainings for community members and government officials on utilizing project outputs for data-driven decision-making.
  • Disseminate project findings and best practices through publications, presentations, and participation in national and global networks focused on heat resilience.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant field such as Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Geomatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline .
  • Proven experience leading and managing complex technical projects, preferably in the field of climate change adaptation or urban resilience.

Skills:

  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Strong understanding of Geo-AI concepts, machine learning algorithms, and their applications in urban environments.
  • Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro and QGIS.
  • Experience with remote sensing data analysis and interpretation.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools like Python and libraries such as TensorFlow and Scikit-Learn.
  • Social Impact and Community Engagement:
  • Demonstrated commitment to social impact and experience working with vulnerable communities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust and rapport with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in participatory mapping and community-based planning approaches.
  • Project Management and Communication:
  • Excellent project management skills, including budgeting, timeline management, and reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to various audiences.
