Position Summary:
The Chief of Staff (CoS) to the CEO is a critical leadership role, providing strategic and operational support to the CEO. This position involves working closely with the CEO to manage key initiatives, enhance communication, streamline operations, and ensure the overall alignment of the company’s strategic goals. The CoS will act as a trusted advisor and problem-solver, facilitating decision-making, improving productivity, and executing high-impact projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Support & Decision-Making
- Assist the CEO in setting, tracking, and executing the company’s short-term and long-term strategic goals.- Provide analysis, recommendations, and reports on various business matters and opportunities.- Support the CEO in preparing for board meetings, executive meetings, and high-stakes conversations with investors, clients, and stakeholders.
1. Project Management & Execution
- Oversee key strategic initiatives and projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and timelines.- Help prioritize and track CEO and executive team deliverables, maintaining accountability.- Lead or support cross-functional teams in executing high-priority company initiatives.
1. Communication & Coordination
- Serve as a liaison between the CEO and internal/external stakeholders, ensuring clear and efficient communication.- Ensure that the CEO is well-prepared for meetings, presentations, and public events by managing agendas and follow-up action items.- Manage CEO’s day-to-day calendar, travel, and meeting priorities, acting as a filter to maximize focus time.
1. Team & Culture Development
- Help build and maintain a positive, high-performance company culture that aligns with the startup’s values and mission.- Ensure the executive team is working cohesively and provide support in driving a collaborative environment.- Mentor and manage staff when necessary, particularly in high-impact projects.
1. Operational Excellence
- Identify opportunities to optimize operations, systems, and processes across the company.- Provide hands-on support for company-wide initiatives, including HR, finance, legal, and marketing matters.- Assist in budget management and resource allocation to ensure operational efficiency.
1. Special Projects & Ad-Hoc Requests
- Own and drive special projects or initiatives as delegated by the CEO, often requiring independent research, strategy, and implementation.- Conduct research, draft reports, and create presentations to support the CEO in business development, partnerships, and fundraising efforts.
Qualifications:
- Experience:- 4+ years of experience in a strategic, operational, or project management role, ideally in a startup or fast-paced environment.- Experience working closely with senior leadership teams or C-suite executives is a plus.- Education:- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or related field. MBA or equivalent is a plus.- Skills & Competencies:- Strong project management skills with a proven track record of managing complex initiatives.- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to various audiences (internal and external).- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.- Highly analytical, with the ability to think strategically and execute tactically.- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.- Proficiency with tools such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and project management software (e.g., Asana, Trello, Slack).- Attributes:- Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and initiative.- Adaptability and ability to thrive in a dynamic startup environment.- Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and influence others.
