A) About the Role:
- We seek a professional from Legal acumen to help Mercados in pursuing such matters before various State/Central Commission, Appellate Tribunal/any other court of law in India. Typically, the matters may be related to the areas of Power Distribution/Power Purchase Management, Commercial & other Regulatory Issues and Tariff matters. The candidate shall utilize his/her expertise in taking lead in assignment execution, client relationship management, team mentoring and business development activities in the Policy & Regulatory segment.
- The Candidate shall be a part of the dynamic, high performing team within our ‘Legal’ cell. As a key member of our Legal Team, and reporting to the ‘Legal Executive’, the key (broadly indicative) expectations from the ‘Analyst – Legal’ shall be as under from a legal perspective.
B) Detailed expectations from the role:
- Generate new business leads and opportunities to meet agreed targets by building client relationships, identify business opportunities from new and existing clients, prepare project proposals, make verbal and written client presentations and conduct appropriate follow-up to secure the business.
- Should be able to do multi-tasking on assignments and be able to deliver in typical consulting environment involving legal issues.
- Should develop strong set of techno-commercial competencies, thought leadership and people leadership, client focus and relationship building.
- Should acquire basic knowledge of financial/tariff modelling of Power Utilities and shall be able to deal in legal issues involving policy/ regulatory matters, tariff matters, regulatory due-diligence, power purchase, PPA scrutiny & review, techno-commercial aspects of power business.
- Shall be able to extensive research on case laws and shall be able to include them in the ongoing assignments.
- Should be able to do guide team / manage/ update crucial data base related Energy policies, regulatory framework, category wise tariff at different states, various orders approved by SERC/CERC/APTEL/ Supreme Court, etc. (Related to change in law, PPA, etc.
- Should remain updated about the latest trends/changes in the power sector regulatory scenario including the new policy notifications, Electricity Act Amendments, new Regulations, key judgements of higher courts, etc.
- Should have Strong written and oral communications skills.
- Should have Excellent interpersonal skills to manage both internal as well as external stakeholders.
- It may be noted that for technical aspects involved in the proposals/engagements, the candidate shall be provided other team members well versed with such issues, however, the legal candidate shall familiarize with the basic tariff related calculations in due course of time.
C) Required skill set
- Excellent Drafting skills.
- Good oral communication skills to plead the matter before client/SERC/legal authorities
- MS Office proficiency (word and power point)
- Expertise in policy/ tariff/ regulatory matters of power sector
D) Education and Experience
- LLB/ LLM with 0-3 years of experience
- Experience of working in power sector related matters would be an advantage
E) Location
- Base location shall be New Delhi. However, the role would require the applicant to undertake travel for pursuing various opportunities.
