Senior Android Developer

Role overview:We are seeking a highly skilled Android engineer with 6 - 7 years of experience leading complex media and real-time features, from camera capture and live streaming to offline sync and adaptive networking. You’ll own end-to-end delivery of high-performance Android apps that work flawlessly across devices, orientations, and network conditions, while helping modernize a legacy Java codebase to Kotlin and Jetpack.Key Task & Activities:Build media capture pipelines: Implement reliable video/audio recording (CameraX/Camera2, MediaRecorder/MediaCodec), foreground services, permissions, and lifecycle-safe UX.Implement live and on-demand streaming: Integrate ExoPlayer/WebRTC/HLS/DASH, with adaptive bitrate (ABR), buffering, retry, and QoS telemetry.Edit, transcode & export: Create video editing & conversion flows (trim/merge/overlay, thumbnails, mute/volume, frame extraction) using MediaCodec/MediaMuxer and, where needed, FFmpeg/NDK.Networking & data handling: Design robust XML/JSON parsing, error handling, and retries with Retrofit/OkHttp; implement manual WebSocket clients (reconnect, ping/pong, backoff, TLS pinning).Local storage & sync: Model complex data with SQLite/Room, relational constraints, migrations, and offline-first strategies using WorkManager for background sync and conflict resolution.Orientation-aware UI: Deliver polished XML-based layouts that support portrait/landscape, multi-window, tablets, and accessibility; progressively introduce Jetpack Compose where it adds value.Adaptive networking: Monitor network speed and dynamically adjust upload/streaming bitrates, chunk sizes, and retry policies; surface metrics (latency, jitter, rebuffer ratio).Modernize the stack: Refactor legacy Java modules to Kotlin, establish Clean Architecture/MVVM, modularization, DI (Hilt/Koin), and comprehensive tests.Quality & release: Ship with CI/CD, unit/UI tests (JUnit/Espresso), Crashlytics/Performance monitoring, ProGuard/R8, Play Console compliance, and privacy/permission best practices.Required Qualifications:Building Android apps with Kotlin and Java (comfortable improving legacy Java while writing new Kotlin code).Deep knowledge of media APIs (CameraX/Camera2, MediaCodec/MediaMuxer/MediaExtractor, ExoPlayer) and live streaming concepts (keyframes, ABR, HLS/DASH, WebRTC).Hands-on with WebSockets (manual control of reconnect, heartbeats, backpressure) and OkHttp/Retrofit.Strong SQLite/Room skills (migrations, relations, indexing, performance) and offline/online sync patterns (WorkManager).Proven delivery of complex forms/data flows, validation, and error-first UX.Solid grasp of Android concurrency (Coroutines/Flows), lifecycle, foreground services, background limits (Android 12–14), and scoped storage.Comfort with network diagnostics (bandwidth estimation, throughput, QoS metrics) and tuning for unreliable networks.Testing mindset and release discipline; familiarity with CI/CD (GitHub Actions/Bitrise/CircleCI).Nice to have:FFmpeg/NDK experience for advanced editing/transcoding.WebRTC (publisher/subscriber, TURN/STUN), RTP/RTMP knowledge.Compose migrations, custom Views, and OpenGL/MediaEffects.Security hardening (certificate pinning, keystore, SafetyNet/Play Integrity).Analytics/telemetry design (custom events, funneling, p95 rebuffer time).Add on Skillset:Kotlin, Java, Coroutines/Flow, CameraX/Camera2, MediaCodec/Muxer, ExoPlayer, WebRTC, FFmpeg/NDK, Retrofit/OkHttp, WebSocket (OkHttp), Room/SQLite, WorkManager, DataStore, ViewBinding/XML, Jetpack (Lifecycle, Navigation), Crashlytics, Firebase Performance, ProGuard/R8, Gradle.We are looking for someone who can start immediately or within one month.If you meet the above requirements, please send your CV to tssinfo@twilightsoftwares.com with your availability, current and expected package.
