Job Description : Mainframe Administrator and Support Specialist

Location : PAN India

Experience : 5+ Years

Role Overview :

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Administrator and Support Specialist with expertise in z/OS, Storage, and Scheduling. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the stability, security, and efficiency of our mainframe environment across multiple locations in India. This role requires hands-on experience in managing and supporting mainframe systems, ensuring high availability, and optimizing system performance.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Mainframe Administration :

- Install, configure, and maintain the IBM z/OS operating system and related mainframe software.

- Manage and monitor system performance, ensuring optimal operation and availability.

- Perform system upgrades, patches, and maintenance to keep the environment secure and up-to-date.

- Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, providing root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.

2. Storage Management :

- Administer and manage mainframe storage resources, including DASD, tape libraries, and virtual storage systems.

- Monitor storage utilization and plan for capacity upgrades as needed.

- Implement storage management policies and best practices to optimize storage performance and efficiency.

- Perform backup and recovery operations, ensuring data integrity and availability.

3. Scheduler Management :

- Manage and maintain mainframe scheduling tools (e.g., CA-7, Control-M) to ensure timely execution of batch jobs.

- Create, modify, and monitor job schedules, ensuring alignment with business requirements.

- Troubleshoot job failures and work with application teams to resolve scheduling conflicts and dependencies.

- Provide support for ad-hoc job requests and implement changes in the scheduling environment.

4. Support & Incident Management :

- Provide 24/7 on-call support for mainframe systems, responding to and resolving incidents in a timely manner.

- Work closely with other IT teams to support disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

- Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and incident reports.

5. Security & Compliance :

- Ensure the mainframe environment adheres to security policies and regulatory compliance requirements.

- Monitor and manage access controls, auditing, and encryption standards.

- Perform regular security assessments and vulnerability scans, implementing corrective actions as necessary.

5. Collaboration & Communication :

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network, application, and database administrators, to ensure integrated and reliable operations.

- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates on system status, project progress, and incident resolution.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

Technical Expertise :

- Strong experience with IBM z/OS and related mainframe technologies.

- Proficiency in mainframe storage management, including DASD, tape, and virtual storage systems.

- Expertise in mainframe scheduling tools such as CA-7, Control-M, or similar.

- Solid understanding of mainframe security practices, including RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret.

- Knowledge of scripting and automation tools (e.g., REXX, JCL, CLIST).

Experience :

- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in mainframe administration and support.

- Proven track record of managing complex mainframe environments, including troubleshooting and performance tuning.

- Experience with disaster recovery planning and execution in a mainframe environment.

Soft Skills :

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
