Job Summary:


The Voyage Optimization Specialist contributes to the vessel routing process as required on a shift basis, 24/7/365. Provides assistance to the client with Route planning ‐ Voyage optimization and Weather routing within customer contracted time requirements.


Task & Responsibilities:


  • Assist our clients in finding the most optimal route (safest, most time-efficient or fuel-efficient route) with the help of our software to ensure the safety of the vessel, cargo and crew.
  • Respond to client inquires for weather conditions and other information during the voyages and have contact to both offshore and onshore staff.
  • Prepares and sends Wx updates to Vessels under supervision.
  • Willing to work during night hours on rotational basis.
  • Periodically monitors the 24/7 customer service routing phone line on a rotational basis, including night hours.
  • Monitor incoming and outgoing communication on common mailing tool. Shares important information with the analysts.
  • Monitor speed and position deviations for vessels on active routes and notify relevant parties.
  • Inform vessels close to hurricanes/typhoons and offer assistance.
  • Update routes for vessels with changed performance and notify relevant parties in case of large ETA/cost changes.
  • Communicates with Operators/Ship Masters as part of our quick response.
  • Assist in training of personnel with regard to the platform and on voyage optimization.
  • Contribute to the success of the team as a whole through consistent and professional work ethic, collaboration and input to process improvement.
  • Be part of testing and giving feedback on future development of our voyage optimization module


Qualification & Experience:


  • Graduation or equivalent degree
  • Sailing background as 2nd Officer/3rd Officer.
  • Shore experience in similar role will be an advantage.


Knowledge & Skills:


  • Understanding of Voyage Optimization & Weather routing.
  • Good knowledge in any of fields ‐ Geography, Oceanography and Marine Meteorology.
  • Basic understanding of fuel optimization and performance management.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills to effectively communicate via email and phone.
  • Proficient in handling Outlook and other MS Office applications.
