We're looking for a curious individual supporting our NatCat and Geo modelling team who likes to build tools and scouts for new ideas on how to best leverage Swiss Re's proprietary NatCat models.

You contribute to the development of solutions for and with our clients/internal stakeholders globally, using geospatial data, processing methods and analytics. You pre-process, process and analyse datasets, test them for accuracy and appropriate content, build data pipelines from external provider into our applications, and visualize datasets in our platforms. You are responsible for data updates, and you are the first point of contact for support requests from users and stakeholders.

Your focus areas would be in building concepts and tools for geo data to be in combination with Swiss Re's proprietary models and external risk model providers along with the model maintenance and validation. This role also includes, ad-hoc user support, data mining/extraction tasks and associated documentation.

About the team

Are you interested to join an international team working on a variety of projects to deliver on Cat and geospatial solutions in the property and speciality insurance space? You will be embedded in the NatCat and Geo modelling team located in Zurich and Bangalore which covers a wide range of specializations in natural science, engineering and statistics disciplines. Your primary work location would be based out of Bangalore.

The Catastrophe perils department is responsible for Swiss Re's global natural catastrophe risk assessment. The department advances state of the art probabilistic and proprietary modelling technology for earthquakes, windstorm and flood hazards, with a clear business mandate to grow Swiss Re's competitive edge in close collaboration with Swiss Re's underwriters and clients.

As part of the Cat & Geo modeling team you work closely with various Cat Perils partners and stakeholders in designing and maintaining NatCat/GEO tools.

You will encounter an upbeat team with a high energy level and a can-do mentality, which celebrates success but also learns from mistakes. We are people orientated and are committing to a strong collaboration within Swiss Re

About You:

Master's degree or equivalent in Natural Sciences, Geoinformatics, GIS or Remote Sensing Engineering. Work experience in the geospatial industry, with a track record in geo specific processing and analytics tools. Preferably you applied those skills in the (re)insurance sector and/or in NatCat model development. At least 2-3 years' experience in working with GIS tools (QGIS, ESRI ArcMap or ArcGIS Online). Programming experience in python including the following geospatial libraries: GDAL, geopandas, rasterio. Demonstrate strong skills in both raster and vector geo-processing, employing tools and techniques to analyze and evaluate spatial data effectively. Leverage experience with open-source databases to enhance our geospatial data management capabilities and streamline workflows. Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL is required. Experience with PostGIS a plus. Strong quantitative skillsand experience with managing small projects independently You take ownership, flair for quality of work and likes to look at details You have an interest in natural catastrophes and risk assessment You are a team-player and contribute actively to the overall team spirit You have excellent communication skills with proficient level of English You are self-driven and speak up when you see room for improvement
