Main Purpose


Trafigura Group's gas/LNG, power, and carbon trading division is in search of a seasoned quantitative analyst to supervise and validate intricate valuation models independently, while also developing tools to bolster the reporting teams within the deals desk.

The Deals Desk functions as a central team offering market and risk analysis on a global scale.

The team's core duties include overseeing all risk factors and exposures connected to commercial operations, reporting directly to the Management Board on a daily basis.


As a Quantitative Deals Desk Analyst, your role will be pivotal in delivering risk oversight for trading desk operations in Copenhagen and Geneva. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure independent validation, capture, and reporting of complex valuation model risks and pnl.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Robust quantitative abilities
  • Proficiency in utilizing ETRM models and coding in Python or SQL to extract critical data.
  • Hands-on experience in power and gas/LNG markets.
  • Understanding of the life cycles of physical and financial power trades.
  • Acquainted with operations on third-party ETRM systems.
  • Technical expertise in physical and financial Gas/LNG, power, and carbon responsibilities
  • Calibration and validation of option models used for deals desk pnl reporting
  • Evaluation of 'new deal' valuation models from the front office
  • Validation and update of volatility and correlations applied in ETRM systems
  • Periodic assessment of price shaping methodologies
  • Providing an independent evaluation of reserve methodologies for complex and illiquid deals
  • Collaborating closely with deals desk reporting teams for the onboarding of new complex products/deals into the ETRM system
  • Creating tools to extract and present crucial data from ETRM databases
  • Ensuring key risks and trading desk activities are communicated to management
  • Engaging with fellow deals desk professionals across different locations
  • Liaising with pertinent Trafigura departments to establish and uphold control procedures and generate essential reports: traders, operations, compliance, risk, Robust quantitative capabilities with experience in pricing and valuation models
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL, and Python
