Section 3 - Job Description
The Role:
We are seeking a Natural Language Processing (NLP) Engineer to join our Economist Group engineering team. The primary focus will involve designing, developing, and maintaining data platforms related to customer-facing products. The role will encompass implementing data infrastructure for predictive analytics, ML algorithms, and Generative AI applications to support the organization's vision under the guidance of the Head of AI and Data Engineering.
The ideal candidate should possess experience in leading or mentoring high-performing teams and have a strong commitment to delivering top-notch solutions. We provide flexible working arrangements, including a 'remote-first' policy, allowing you to work from the office twice a month or more if desired.
How You Will Contribute in This Role:
- Architect, build, and maintain NLP processing pipelines using Python and technologies like Spark, Airflow, and MLflow.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists to operationalize ML and NLP research ideas.
- Utilize Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI API services.
- Implement RAG architectures and RLHF processes.
- Drive MLOps and DevOps for LLMs in cloud-native environments.
- Enhance and optimize existing processes to ensure best practices.
- Work agilely in a collaborative product team using Kanban.
- Facilitate data requirements refinement across departments.
- Educate colleagues on NLP pipelining and data processing techniques.
- Ensure compliance and governance in model usage.
- Promote Generative AI expertise to business unit leaders.
What We're Looking For:
- 6+ years of NLP experience in large-scale digital applications.
- Proficiency in Python and Jupyter notebooks.
- Experience in cloud-based NLP solutions and LLM consumption.
- Knowledge of cloud-native technologies like AWS Lambda and SageMaker Studio.
- Leadership experience in NLP and ML engineering.
- Background in computer science, data science, or related fields.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong sense of ownership, action-oriented mindset.
